Nature of Relationship between Ahlebayt(ra) and Abu Huraira(ra).

The virtues of Ahlebayt(ra) narrated by Abu Huraira(ra)

Ibn Majah reported in his “Sunnan”:
Narrated Abu Hurayra: Prophet (sallalahu alayhi wa ala alihi wa salam) said: Who would love al-Hasan and al-Husayn he loves me, and whoever would hate them, hates me”. Sheikh Albani in “Saheeh ibn Majah” said it’s hasan(good).

Narrated Abu Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him) that Prophet (sallalahu alaihi wa ala alihi wa salam) said:

خيركم خيركم لأهلي من بعدي
“The best from your is a best (in his attitude) towards my family after me”

Narrated:
Ibn al-Arabi in “Mojam”#702.
Abu Yala in “Mosnad” #5924.
Hakim in “Mostadrak” #5359

Scholars said:
Hakim said it’s saheh on the terms of Moslem, and has a witness on the terms of shaikham.
Dhahabi in “Talhees” said hadith is on the terms of Moslem.
Shaikh Albani said it’s good in “Silsila as saheha” #1845.

Sa’eed Al Maqbari (Keysan al Madani the Mawla of Umm Shareek) Narrated: We were with Abu Hurairah and al Hassan bin Ali bin Abi Talib came and greeted us with Salam and we returned his greeting however Abu Hurairah never knew him so we told him: Ya Abu Huraira this is al Hassan bin Ali who just greeted us, So he quickly followed him and told him: May Peace be upon you Ya Sayyidi!, Then he said (to us): He is a Sayyed!

Al Mustadrak (3/169) The Isnad is SAHIH and al Imam al Thahabi agreed that it is Sahih.

Narrated Abu Huraira: I was with Allah’s Apostle in one of the Markets of Medina. He left (the market) and so did I. Then he asked thrice, “Where is the small (child)?” Then he said,” Call Al−Hasan bin `Ali.” So Al−Hasan bin `Ali got up and started walking with a necklace (of beads) around his neck. The Prophet stretched his hand out like this, and Al−Hasan did the same. The Prophet embraced him and said, “O Allah! I love him, so please love him and love those who love him.“( Sahi Bukhari 7.772)

Sahi Muslim (#6375) from Abu Hurayra that Allah’s Messenger (Peace be upon him) said on the Day of Khaibar: I shall certainly give this standard in the hand of one who loves Allah and his Messenger and Allah will grant victory at his hand. Umar b. Khattab said: Never did I cherish for leadership but on that day. I came before him with the hope that I may be called for this, but Allah’s Messenger (Peace be upon him) called ‘Ali b. Abi Talib and he conferred (this honour) upon him and said: Proceed on and do not look about until Allah grants you victory, and ‘Ali went a bit and then halted and did not look about and then said in a loud voice: Allah’s Messenger, on what issue should I fight with the people? Thereupon he (the Prophet) said: Fight with them until they bear testimony to the fact that there is no god but Allah and Muhammad is his Messenger, and when they do that then their blood and their riches are inviolable from your hands but what is justified by law and their reckoning is with Allah”.

Abu hurayra(ra) narrated that prophet (sallalahu alaihi wa ala alihihi wa sallam) said:  “To whom I am mawla, Ali is his mawla” (al-Hatib in Tareh 8/290, also Abu Yala and al-Bazzar, as said Al-Heythami in “Majmau zawaid) (“Al Azhar” #102, p 277 of suyuti).

Abu hurayra(ra) narrated that Prophet (sallalahu alaihi wa ala alihi wa salam) said: “Al-Hasan and al-Husayn are the masters of the youths of paradise” (Tabarani in “al-Kabir” 2605, 2604) ((Al Azhar p 286, #105 of suyuti)

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Apostle kissed Al−Hasan bin `Ali while Al−Aqra’ bin H`Abis at−Tamim was sitting beside him.Al−Aqra said, “I have ten children and I have never kissed anyone of them,” Allah’s Apostle cast a look at him and said, “Whoever is not merciful to others will not be treated mercifully.”( Sahi bukhari 8.26)

Narrated Abu Huraira : Dates used to be brought to Allah’s Apostle immediately after being plucked. Different persons would bring their dates till a big heap collected (in front of the Prophet). Once Al−Hasan and Al−Husain were playing with these dates. One of them took a date and put it in his mouth. Allah’s Apostle looked at him and took it out from his mouth and said, “Don’t you know that Muhammad’s offspring do not eat what is given in charity?”(Sahi bukhari 2.562)

Comment: From this report of Abu Huraira(ra) we come to know that Hassan(ra) was considered as offspring of Muhammad(Saw).

The love and respect Abu Huraira(ra) had for Ahlelbayt(ra)

Narrated Abu Huraira: I was with Allah’s Apostle in one of the Markets of Medina. He left (the market) and so did I. Then he asked thrice, “Where is the small (child)?” Then he said,” Call Al−Hasan bin `Ali.” So Al−Hasan bin `Ali got up and started walking with a necklace (of beads) around his neck. The Prophet stretched his hand out like this, and Al−Hasan did the same. The Prophet embraced him and said, “0 Allah! l love him, so please love him and love those who love him.” Since Allah’s Apostle said that, nothing has been dearer to me(Abu huraira) than Al−Hasan.( Sahi Bukhari 7.772)

al-Hakim with its Isnad to Abu Hurairah(ra) that he met al-Hassan bin Ali may Allah be pleased with him and told him: “I saw the messenger of Allah peace be upon him kiss you on the stomach, please reveal that spot he kissed so that I may kiss it as well” al-Hassan then revealed it and he kissed it. (In another narration: He revealed that part placing his hand on his belly so he kissed it).
Source: Mustadrak al-Hakim (3/168) and he said: “Sahih on the condition of Bukhari and Muslim” and Imam al-Dhahabi agreed with him. al-Musnad with fath al-Rabbani (23/167,168) and Ibn Kathir said in al-Bidayah (8/38): “only through Ahmad”. al-Haythami in Mujama’a al-Zawaed (9/177) he said: “narrated Ahmad and al-Tabarani, narrators are those of the Sahih except ‘Umair bin Ishaq and he is trustworthy”.

Sa’eed Al Maqbari (Keysan al Madani the Mawla of Umm Shareek) Narrated: We were with Abu Hurairah may Allah be pleased with him and al Hassan bin Ali bin Abi Talib came and greeted us with Salam and we returned his greeting however Abu Hurairah never knew him so we told him: Ya Abu Huraira this is al Hassan bin Ali who just greeted us, So he quickly followed him and told him: May Peace be upon you Ya Sayyidi!, Then he said (to us): He is a Sayyed!

Al Mustadrak (3/169) The Isnad is SAHIH and al Imam al Thahabi agreed that it is Sahih.

Comment: From these reports we find that Abu huraira(ra) used to love Ahlelbayt(ra) a lot and have reported many of their virtues, so how could the  Shias accuse such a lover of Ahlelbayt of lying? Are they going to reject even the virtues of Ahlelbayt narrated by Abu Huraira(ra)?

Ahlelbayt(ra) took narrations from Abu huraira(ra) and implemented on those narrations.

Regarding Imam Zaynul Aabideen who is from Ahlelbayt, Imam Dhahabi states in his book Siyar (4/387):”(besides his fathers) he has narrated from Safiyyah Ummul Mu’mineen, that is in Bukhari and Muslim, and from Abu Hurairah, and Aaisha, his narration from her is in Muslim”

Shia scholar Abu Al-Hasan Al-Ardabili narrated in his book “Kashf Al-Ghimmah” that Sa’eed bin Marjanah says: “Once I was with Ali bin Al-Hussein(zain al abedin) and I said: “I heard Abu Hurayrah saying: “The Messenger of Allah said that whoever frees a believer Allah will free part by part of him from the Hellfire. Even Allah would free a hand by a hand, a leg by a leg, and hole by hole” Ali alayhi al-salam said: “You heard that from Abu Hurayrah?” Sa’eed answered by a yes. Ali bin Al-Hussein said to his slave: “To my most intelligent slave boy -Abdullah bin Jaffar proposed to buy this slave by one thousand Dinar, but Ali bin Al-Hussein refused – you are free for the sake of Allah.” (Al-Ardabili, “Kashf Al-Ghimmah,” Vol.2 “Virtues of Imam Zayn Al-A’abideen,” p.290)

Comment: This shows us the truth and faithfulness of Abu Huraryah in the eyes of Imam Ali bin Al-Hussein to a degree that the Imam would execute what Abu Hurayrah narrates without hesitation.

The person who narrates many hadeeths from Abu Hurayrah is the husband of his daughter; Sa’eed bin Al-Museeb one of his most famous pupils, and the one who narrated from Abu Hurayrah the hadeeth of the Prophet’s teachings to Abu Hurayrah on memorizing hadeeths. Al-Kashshi –one of the grandest Shia scholars in the Science of Men- says about Sa’eed bin Al-Museeb: “Sa’eeb bin Al-Museeb was raised by the Prince of Believers alayhi al-salam.” (Rijal Al-Kashshi, Number 54, p.107)

Al-Kashshi also narrates that Abu Jaffar says: “Sa’eed bin Al-Museeb the most knowledgeable person among people in the oldies and the most understandable person at his time.” (Rijal Al-Kashshi, Number 54, p.110)

Hence, we say that if Ali(ra) raised Sa’eed bin Al-Museeb “then did not Ali tell ibn Al-Museeb his opinion about Abu Hurayrah, Since Sa’eed ibn Al-Museeb was raised by him? And how could Ali permit Sa’eed ibn Al-Museeb to marry the daughter of the most lying person(according to biased shias) and Ali was his guardian and trustee?” [Abdulmun’eim Al-Ali, “Aqbas min Manaqib Abu Hurayrah,” (Lights in the Virtues of Abu Hurayrah) p.147]

Mu’awiyah bin Abi A’aysh Al-Ansari narrates that once he was sitting with Ibn Al-Zubair when Muhammad ben Eyas ben Al-Bakee came and asked about the religious verdict of a man who divorced his wife three times before sexual intercourse. So Ibn Abi Ayash sent the man to Abu Hurayrah and Ibn Abbas who both were with Aysha. The man left and asked Abu Hurayrah and Ibn Abbas the same question. Ibn Abbas asked Abu Huraryah: “Here you got an enigma, give him an answer Abu Hurayrah.” Abu Hurayrah answered: “The first divorce makes your wife a Bayyinah divorcee, and the third one makes her forbidden on you.” Ibn Abbas said the same thing. (Al-Dhahabi, “Sayr A’alam Al-Nubala’a,” Vol.2 p.607)

Comment: Therefore, How is it possible to call a man like Abu Huraira(ra) as a liar when Ibn Abbas – the companion of Ali and a member of Ahlelbayt – have trust in him, behave with respect to him and ask him to give the religious verdict?

Nature of Relationship between Ahlebayt(ra) and Az−Zubair bin Al Awwam

Virtues of Zubair(ra) narrated by Ahlelbayt(ra)

Narrated Ali (may God be pleased with him): I heard the Prophet (pbuh) saying: Talha and Zubair are my neighbor in Paradise [Tirmidhi]

Ali bin Abi talib (RA) said ‘Give the news of hellfire to the one who killed Ibn Safiya ( al-Zubair bin al-Awwam RA) because I heard the Prophet(saw) saying :’ Every prophet used to have a Hawari (i.e. disciple who supports him), and my Hawari(i.e disciple who supports me) is Az-Zubair bin Al-’Awwam.
Sources: This Hadith was Narrated by Ali ibn Abi Talib (RA) in: Musnad Ali By Ibn Jarir al Tabari with a SAHIH Isnad. in Musnad Ahmad By Ahmad Shakir with a SAHIH Isnad. In Sahih al Musnad by al Wadi’ee with a good chain of narrators.
Overall Hadith grading: SAHIH.

Similar report is also present in Shia book Bihar al-Anwar of Baqir al-Majlisi 32/336:

أن أمير المؤمنين لما جاءه ابن جرموز برأس الزبير قال : “بشر قاتل ابن صفية بالنار “.بحار الأنوار للمجلسي ج32 ص336

When ibn Jurmouth came to Ameer al-Mumineen with the head of al-Zubair, he said: “Promise hell-fire to the killer of ibn Saffiyah(Al Zubair)”.

The close bonding between Ahlelbayt(ra) and Zubair(ra)

Ali said to Talha and Al-Zubair, “O’ Brothers! I am not ignorant of what you know! But what can I do to people who rule us and we don’t rule them? Here they are, and your slaves rebelled with them and the Bedouins as well.” [Tareekh Al-Tabari, vol.2, p.702, Year 35 Hijri].

Ali(ra) hoping for a peaceful settlement, marched towards basrah to talk personally with Talhah and Az zubayr. The two armies were facing each other. Ali gave an address to basrites in which he said: I am but your brother……..I will avenge uthman’s assassins. Talhah and Az zubayr and basrites were fully satisfied with what Ali told them. The caliph also returned to his camp very satisfied. He gave strict order to his men not to fight in any case , and keep praying all night.(Biographies of the rightly guided caliphs page 358-359)

Comment: These reports show us the beautiful bonding of brotherhood between Ali(ra) and Zubair(ra).

During the battle a man came to al-Zubair telling him that he can assassinate ‘Ali if he was able to infiltrate his army.

Al-Zubair said that the Prophet SAWS does not allow this, he then said: “No; the Believer does not assassinate a believer.”
Source:Musnad Ahmad 3/19 and Ahmad Muhammad Shakir said: Sahih.

Comment: Just another example of beautiful relationship between Zubair(ra) and Ali(ra), where Zubair(ra) doesn’t like his believing brother(Ali) to be assassinated.

Ibn Abi Shayba narrated in his Mosannaf from Abu Jafar:
37774 – حدثنا أبو أسامة عن خالد بن أبي كريمة عن أبي جعفر قال جلس علي وأصحابه يوم الجمل يبكون على طلحة والزبير
That Ali and his companions sat down on the day of Jamal and cried upon Talha and Zubair.

Comment: Could there be a better evidence than this to prove that what close relation did Ali(ra) and Zubair(ra) shared between them. Ali(ra) cried over the death of Zubair(ra) which signifies his love for Zubair(ra)

It was narrated by Imam Ahmad in his “Fadailu sahaba” (#1057) narrated that Ali said: “I hope that I, Uthman, Talha and Zubair from people regarding whom Allah said: “(15:47) And We shall remove from their hearts any lurking sense of injury: (they will be) brothers (joyfully) facing each other on thrones (of dignity)” Then be said: “Who are they if not us? Who are they if not us?” And he kept repeating it until the narrator wished that he would fall silent.

Ali [a.s] said : Zubair remained from us ahlelbayt till his son Abdullah appeared. Nahjul Balagha

Zubair’s(ra) relationship with Ahlelbayt(ra)

Zubair had a son named Abdullah. Ali’s grand daughter Umm Hasan daughter of Hasan was married to him. Ali’s another grand daughter, Sakina bin Hussain was married to the other son of Zubair, i.e Musab bin Zubair.(Muntaha al amal, vol. 1 , p. 243, Muarif by Qutaiba p. 94, Nasb Quraish p. 59)

Nature of Relationship between Ahlebayt(ra) and Talha(ra)

The close bonding between Ahlelbayt(ra) and Talha(ra)

It was narrated by Imam Ahmad in his “Fadailu sahaba” (#1057) narrated that Ali said: “I hope that I, Uthman, Talha and Zubair from people regarding whom Allah said: “(15:47) And We shall remove from their hearts any lurking sense of injury: (they will be) brothers (joyfully) facing each other on thrones (of dignity)” Then be said: “Who are they if not us? Comment: These reports show us the beautiful bonding of brotherhood between Ali(ra) and Talha(ra).

Ali b. Abi Talib heard a man saying after the Battle of the Camel, “Where is Talha?” `Ali scolded him. He said, “You were not present on the Day of Uhud. I saw him while he was defending the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, with his own body while the swords were covering him. He used himself as a shield for the Mesenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.” (al awaasim min alqawaasim page 86)

Tabarani narrated from Talha ibn Musrif: “When Ali reached Talha ibn Ubeydullah, he was already dead. He dismounted and sat near him. He was rubbing his face and beard (from dust) asking mercy for him, and saying: “Wow to me! I wish to die 20 years before this” Al-Heythami in “Majmau zawaid” (#14823) said: “Chain is al-Hasan”.

Ibn Abi Shayba narrated in his Mosannaf from Abu Jafar:
37774 – حدثنا أبو أسامة عن خالد بن أبي كريمة عن أبي جعفر قال جلس علي وأصحابه يوم الجمل يبكون على طلحة والزبير

Virtues of Talha(ra) narrated by Ahlelbayt(ra)

Narrated Ali (may God be pleased with him): I heard the Prophet (pbuh) saying: Talha and Zubair are my neighbor in Paradise [Tirmidhi]

Virtues of Ahlelbayt(ra) narrated by Talha(ra)

Talha(ra) narrated that prophet (sallalahu alaihi wa ala alihihi wa sallam) said: “To whom I am mawla, Ali is his mawla” (ibn Abu Asim in Sunnan 1358) (“Al Azhar” #102, p 277 of suyuti).

Son of Hassan(ra) was named Talha

In list of Imam Hasan’s children, as found in Shia Shiekh Mufid’s book (Kitab al-Irshad, pp.289-290),  One of the name is “Talha”. This child’s mother was Umm Ishaq, the daughter of Talha ibn Ubayd-Allah; in other words, this child too was named after his grandfather, keeping in line with the idea that the Ahlel Bayt named their family after loved ones and revered persons.
