Sending Salat upon Prophet Muhammad(Saw) during supplication(Dua)

Sending Salat upon Prophet Muhammad(Saw) during supplication(Dua)

Shiekh Abu Ammaar Yadir Qadhi in his book, Dua the weapon of the believer, has covered this issue.

He states: The proof of this(salat on Prophet) is the prophet’s(saw) statement in which he said: Every dua is covered until (the person) prays(salat) upon the prophet(Saw). (Authentic, narrated by Al-Nasai and Ibn Hibban and al-Dalylami and others, and it is authenticated in Sahih al-jami # 4523)

The Dua is ‘covered’ meaning that it is not raised up to Allah until the person making the dua accompanies it with the prayer upon the Prophet(Saw).

However, it seems that this is not a necessary condition, since the Prophet(Saw) himself did not practice this continually. There are numerous narrations from the Prophet(Saw) concerning specific supplications(du’as) which he made, and which he(Saw) commanded his companions to make, which do not contain the prayer upon him(Saw). For example, He(saw) said: O Allah! I seek refuge in you from leprosy, madness and evil diseases.(Narrated by Abu Dawud and Al-Nasai and authenticated in Sahih al-Jami # 1281)

This narration shows that it is not a necessary condition to pray upon the Prophet(Saw) during every dua, but rather that it is recommended to do so.

A further indication of its commendability is the narration of the Prophet(Saw) in which he said: A messenger came to me from my lord and said, ‘There is no worshiper who prays upon you once, except that Allah will pray upon him ten times!’

A person stood up and said, ‘O Messenger of Allah! Should I make half of my prayers upon you?’ He(saw) replied: “If you wish”. He then asked, “Should I make two-thirds of my prayers upon you?” He replied: “If you wish”. He then asked, “Should I not make all of my prayers upon?” He(saw) replied:”In that case, Allah would suffice you in your needs of this world and the Hereafter!”(Reported by al-tirmidhi and authenticated by al-Albani in Sahih al-Jami # 57) [Dua the weapon of the believer, Page 67-68] {End Quote}

On the Islamic website Islamweb.net a good answer was given when a questioner asked a question regarding this issue. Below is the answer to it.

Question

Assalamualaykum, dear scholar I have learned that it is always good to recite darood before making dua. Does this applies to al kind of dua, that is even the specific ones like dua before and after eating, dua before and after entering the masjid…? Jazaakallah khayr.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad(saw) is His slave and Messenger.

It appears that the desirability of exalting the mention of the Prophet(saw) before Du`aa` (supplication) is specific to the general supplications. As regards the Athkaar (the mention of Allaah) related to specific circumstances, then they should be said without any additions because had exalting the mention of the Prophet(saw) been permissible in such circumstances, it would have been reported to us and the Prophet(saw) and his companions(ra) would not have neglected it. Indeed, the best guidance is the guidance of the Prophet(saw) .

Therefore, the permissible mention of Allaah that is said before eating and after it, and in other circumstances is to say what is reported without adding the exaltation of the Prophet(saw) because this is not reported.

It should be mentioned that exalting the mention of the Prophet(Saw) is reported when saying the supplication of entering the mosque and coming out of it; the Prophet(saw) said: “If anyone amongst you enters the mosque, he should exalt the mention of the Prophet(Saw) and then he should say: “O Allaah, open the gates of Your Mercy for me.”, and if he comes out of the mosque he should say: “O Allaah, I ask You from Your Favour.” [Abu Daawood] Another narration reads: “…he should send Salaam upon the Prophet(Saw) and exalt his mention and then he should say …”

Allaah Knows best. [End Quote]

The Ahadeeth(traditions) which mentions, sending Salat(blessings) on Prophet Muhammad(Saw) in supplications.

1.
Al-Bayhaqi narrated in Shu’ab al-Eemaan that ‘Ali (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “Every du’aa’ is not responded to until one sends blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).” This was narrated by Baqiy ibn Mukhallid from ‘Ali in a marfoo’ report, i.e., it was attributed to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). (This hadeeth was classed as authentic by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami’, no. 4523) [Scan avail]

2. ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “Du’aa’ is detained between the heavens and the earth and no part of it is taken up until you send blessings upon your Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).” (Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 486; classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi, 403).

3.

The Prophet (pbuh) said: If any of you supplicates then let him begin with the praise of God then send peace and blessings upon the Prophet (pbuh) then let him supplicate for whatever he wants. (Tirmidhi, authentic.)

4. Abu Dawood (1481) and al-Tirmidhi (3477) from Faddaalah ibn ‘Ubayd (may Allaah be pleased with him) who said: “The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) heard a man making du’aa’ in his prayer without glorifying Allaah or sending blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, ‘This man is in a hurry.’ He called him and said to him or to someone else, ‘When anyone of you makes du’aa’, let him start by glorifying his Lord and praising Him, then let him send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), then let him pray for whatever he wants.’” (This hadeeth was classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood, 1314).

5. Also found hassan(good) in Musnad Ahmad the Prophet (pbuh) heard someone supplicating and only sending peace and blessings upon him, and he told him to ask for whatever he wanted and it would be accepted:

The Prophet (pbuh) heard someone making a supplication during prayer in which he didn’t praise God nor send peace and blessings upon the Prophet (pbuh), so he (pbuh) said to him “You have hastened Oh worshipper”. So the Prophet (pbuh) taught them. Then he (pbuh) heard a man praying in which he praised God and sent peace and blessings upon the Prophet (pbuh) so he said “Supplicate and you will be answered, ask and you will be given”.

Note:  All of these reports shows us that sending peace(salam) and blessings(Salat) on the Prophet (pbuh) without mentioning “Aal” is acceptable. Since sending Salat and Salam on “Aal of prophet(saw)” is not mentioned here.

Examples of singular Salat and Salam on Prophet Muhammad(saw) , without the mention of  ‘Aal’

Here are some examples most of which were taken from the answer of Shaikh Gibril Haddad, where we not only find the short form but also the long form without mention of salawat on the Aal:

(1) In Abu Sa`id al-Khudri’s (Allah be well-pleased with him) version of the same event the reply was: “O Allah, bless Muhammad Your servant and Messenger, as You have blessed the family of Ibrahim, and grant favor to Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You have granted favor to the family of Ibrahim.” (Bukhari)

(2) Jibril said to the Holy Prophet (upon both of them blessings and peace): “Truly Allah Most High has put an angel in charge, from the time you were created until the time you are resurrected, whereby no one invokes blessings on you (salla `alayka) from your Ummah except he says: ‘And you also, Allah bless you (salla Allah `alayka).’” (Tabarani) The hadiths to that general meaning are mass-transmitted and famous.

(3) Usayd b. Hudayr (Allah be well-pleased with him) said: “Allah bless you, Messenger of Allah, (salla Allahu `alayka ya Rasulullah) and may He reward you goodness on our behalf!” whereupon the Prophet (upon him blessings and peace) said: “And upon you also, you (Hadrami people) as far as I know are full of modesty and patience.” (Ibn Abi `Asim)

(4) Abu Barza al-Aslami (Allah be well-pleased with him) said that when the Prophet (upon him blessings and peace) taught the Companions the du`a of asking forgiveness for any gathering they said: “O Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless and greet you (salla Allahu `alayka wa-sallam)! How could we hear this [i.e. asking forgiveness] from you?” He said: “This is the expiation of any gathering.” (Nasa’i, Sunan Kubra)

(5) Ali and Fatima (Allah be well-pleased with them) said that when they asked the Prophet (upon him blessings and peace) to give them a servant he said: “Shall I not show you what is better for the two of you than the red camels?” `Ali said: “Yes, O Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless you! (salla Allahu `alayk).” He said: “Takbir, tasbih and tahmid totalling 100.” (Nasa’i, Sunan Kubra)

(6) `Ali (Allah ennoble his face) also narrated that the Prophet (upon him blessings and peace) said, regarding the invocation for memorizing the Qur’an: “Then invoke blessings upon me and all the Prophets of Allah Most High” (Tirmidhi)

(7) And when `Ali (Allah ennoble his face) entered upon `Umar (Allah be well-pleased with him and make him pleased) who lay in his shroud, he said: “Allah bless you (salla Allahu `alayk)! There is no one with whose record of deeds I would love to meet Allah most than this shrouded one.” (Ibn Sa`d, Hakim). Note also that the great invocation of blessings on the Prophet (upon him blessings and peace) which Sayyidina `Ali (Allah be well-pleased with him and make him pleased) taught, does not mention the Aal.

(8) `Itban b. Malik (Allah be well-pleased with him) said to the Holy Prophet (upon him blessings and peace): “I am losing my sight, so if you – Allah bless you (salla Allahu `alayk) – can come and pray in my house…..” (Bayhaqi, Sunan Kubra)

(9) Zayd b. Ka`b al-Bahzi (Allah be well-pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (upon him blessings and peace) went out with ihram toward Mecca, and that when he reached al-Rawha’he and his group saw a wild ass that had been hamstrung. He said: “Leave it, its owner will show up any moment,” whereupon al-Bahzi came and he was its owner. He said: “O Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless and greet you! (Ya Rasulullah salla Allahu `alayka wa-sallam). It is yours to dispose of as you all wish. The Prophet then ordered Abu Bakr (Allah be well-pleased with him and make him pleased) to quarter it and distribute it. (Nasa’i)

(10) When he (upon him blessings and peace) said for Abu Bakr to lead prayers during his final illness, our Mother `A’isha (Alah be well-pleased with her) said: “Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless and greet you! (ya Rasulullah salla Allahu `alayka wa-sallam), truly Abu Bakr is a man prone to sorrow….” (Ibn Abi Shayba)

(11) The question of Ibn `Umar in Sahih Muslim, “Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless and greet you! (ya Rasulullah salla Allahu `alayka wa-sallam), you said that the prayer of the man sitting is half that of the one standing…”

(12) al-Hasan b. `Ali b. Abi Talib (Allah be well-pleased with them) said that the Prophet (upon him blessings and peace) said: “Do not turn my grave into a yearly festival. Invoke blessings on me and send greetings (sallu `alayya wa-sallimu), for your salat and your salam reach me wherever you are.” (Musnad Abi Ya`la)

‘Ali bin Hujr told me, Isma’eel bin Ibrahim told me, from Layth, from ‘Abdullah bin al-Hassan, from his mother Fatima bint al-Hussein, from her grandmother Fatima al-Kubra: “When Rassul-Allah (SAWS) would enter the Masjid, he would Salli Ala  Muhammad wa Sallama, then he would say: O Allah, forgive me my sins and open for me the doors of your mercy. When he exits the Masjid he would Salli Ala  Muhammad wa Sallama then he would say: O Allah, forgive me my sins and open for me the doors of your grace.”
‘Ali bin Hujr also said, Isma’eel bin Ibrahim told me: I met ‘Abdullah bin al-Hassan in Mecca and asked him about this Hadith, he narrated it to me and said: “When he enters he would say: O Lord, open for me the doors of your mercy. and when he exists he would say: O Lord, open for me the doors of your grace.”  abu ‘Isa would say: Hadith Fatima bint al-Hussein is “Hasan” and it is not connected as she never met Fatima al-Kubra because she only lived a few months after Rassul-Allah (SAWS).[(sunan tirmidi, kitab al-salat ]

Anas said:When the Prophet (SAWS) entered the masjid he would say: “Bismillah, Allahuma Salli ‘ala Muhammad” and when he left the masjid he would say: “Bismillah, Allahuma Salli ‘ala Muhammad”[al-Albani and other say the Sanad is good] (al-Kalim al-Tayyib pg.64)

(15). It was narrated that Faatimah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “When the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) entered the mosque, he would say, ‘Bismillaah wa’l-salaam ‘ala Rasool-illaah. Allaahumma ighfir li dhunoobi waftah li abwaab rahmatika (In the name of Allaah, and peace be upon the Messenger of Allaah. O Allaah, forgive me my sins and open to me the gates of Your Mercy).’ And when he exited he would say, Bismillaah wa’l-salaam ‘ala Rasool-illaah. Allaahumma ighfir li dhunoobi waftah li abwaab fadlika (In the name of Allaah, and peace be upon the Messenger of Allaah. O Allaah, forgive me my sins and open to me the gates of Your Bounty).’”(Saheeh Sunan Ibn Maajah, 625)

Qaadi ‘Iyaad set out a chapter about salaah on the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) in his book ash- Shifaa’ (The Book of Cure), quoting in it narrations from the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) on the authority of several Companions and Successors:
(16) The hadith of ‘Ali, that he used to teach them the manner of salaah on the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) by saying, O Allaah, Spreader of Plains, Originator of Heights, send the foremost of Your prayers, the most fertile of Your blessings, and any remaining compliments, on Muhammad, Your slave and messenger, the opener of what is closed.
(17) Again from ‘Ali, that he used to say, “The prayers of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful, of the Angels nearest (to Allaah), of the Prophets, of the Sincere ones, of the Witnesses, of the Righteous, and of whatever glorifies You, O Lord of the Worlds, be on Muhammad son of ‘Abdullaah, Seal of the Prophets, Imaam of the Godfearers, … etc.”
(18) On the authority of ‘Abdullaah ibn Mas’ood, that he used to say, “O Allaah! send Your prayers, Your blessings and Your mercy, on Muhammad, Your slave and messenger, the imaam of goodness, the messenger of mercy, …” etc. [End quote of Ash-Shifaa]

These are just a few reports and there are more. They all indicate that the singular invocation of blessings on the Holy Prophet (upon him blessings and peace) – meaning to single him out by saying salla Allahu `alayhi/alayka wa-sallam – is a Prophetic sunnah and a sunnah of the Companions including his blessed relatives, nor was the omission of the Aal in the salawat an invention of later scholars or “middle narrators” as speculated, and that it is also permissible to invoke blessings on other than Prophets “not for magnification and salut) but as a supplication on their behalf and a benediction” as stated by Imam al-Bayhaqi (Haytami, al-Durr al-Mandud p.71). In any case it would be enough, to state, that Allah Most High commanded it in the Qur’an in the singular mode: {Invoke blessings and salutations ON HIM}.

Proofs from the Shia’s most authentic book al-Kafi, where their “infallible” Imams sent short form of Salat on the Prophet(saw) alone:

Some other Proofs that Salat can be sent on Prophet(Saw) alone.

(1) Abu Hurayrah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Prophet said, “May his nose be rubbed in dust(i.e. may he be humiliated), whom I was mentioned in his presence and he did not send (salat)prayers upon me.” [Ahmad and At-Tirmithi, Saheeh Al-Albaani]

(2) Ali (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet also said, “The miser is the one whom I was mentioned in his presence and he did not send prayers(salat) upon me.” [At-Tirmithi, Saheeh Al-Albani]

Comment: From these narrations we find the importance of sending Salat on Prophet(Saw) when we hear his name. But nothing as such was reported in regards to Aal of Prophet(Saw). For example, Prophet(Saw) never said that a person is a miser, before whom my Aal are mentioned and he/she doesn’t send Salat on them. This proves that the minimum obligation of sending Salat on Prophet(saw) is to send Salat on Prophet(Saw) alone.

Refuting the Shia claim that its obligatory to mention Aal while sending Salat on Prophet(Saw).

There is a beautiful answer for this misconception in the book of hafiz al-Sakhawi on the immense merits of invoking blessings on the Prophet entitled al-Qawl al-Badi` fil-Salat `ala al-Habib al-Shafi` (Awwama ed. p. 196-197).

He states: If someone asks: “What is the reason you differed between the salat on the Prophet (upon him blessings and peace) and the salat on the Aal in obligatoriness, although the latter is joined to the former, when the basis of obligatoriness is his saying: ‘Say such-and-such’? So why did you make one part obligatory and not the other?”

The Answer is – as stated [by the scholars] – from two perspectives: FIRST, the main basis for the status of obligatoriness is none other than the command proclaimed in the Qur’an where Allah Most High said:

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ وَمَلَـٰٓٮِٕڪَتَهُ ۥ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى ٱلنَّبِىِّۚ يَـٰٓأَيُّہَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ صَلُّواْ عَلَيۡهِ وَسَلِّمُواْ تَسۡلِيمًا

{Truly Allah and His angels exalt and bless the Prophet; O Believers, exalt and bless him! and do salute him with the worthiest salutation!} Surat al-Ahzab 33:56

So He did not command to invoke blessings on his Aal. As for the Prophet’s (upon him blessings and peace) teaching of how to invoke blessings on him when they queried him: he showed them the obligatory extent, then he added on top of it the level of perfection over and beyond the level of obligatoriness, whereas they had only asked him about blessing on him. This is an offshoot of the difference of opinion concerning a command potentially being both literal and figurative; and the correct position is that it can be that. The one queried may answer with more than what he was originally asked for some beneficial purpose, as took place with the Prophet (upon him blessings and peace) many times. For example, when he was asked about purifying oneself with seawater he replied: “Its water is purifying and its carrion is licit to eat” although there had been no mention of the carrion of the sea in their question.

SECOND, his reply to those who queried him came up with various additions and omissions. The part that is deemed obligatory can only be what all the different versions agree upon, for if everything was equally obligatory, there would not have been shorter versions at certain times. Now, in certain sound (sahih) versions there is no mention of salat on the Aal, as in Sahih al-Bukhari in the narration from Abu Sa`id [no.1 in the list above] but he asserted it in the invocation of favor (barakah) although they had not asked him about barakah, nor was he commanded it in the Qur’anic Verse. [End of al-Sakhawi’s words in his book al-Qawl al-Badi`]

Salat on Aal is not obligatory, because it wasn’t commanded by the Prophet (pbuh) as an obligation, just as a recommendation for the “best way” to send salaam upon him.

When looking at the proofs on how to send peace and blessings upon the Prophet (pbuh), there is NO evidence that it is haram to send peace and blessings ONLY upon him. Anyone who thinks that it is obligatory needs to go back and revise everything the Prophet (pbuh) ever recommended as “obligatory” as well. There are hundreds of times when the Prophet (pbuh) tells people to “do X” but it is understood as a recommendation not an obligation, since there are no listed consequences of not doing it (meaning it is not haram to abstain).

So the real question is: what is the proof that it is haram not to do so? In the Qur’an, and all the other quotes of the Prophet (pbuh), it literally says that one must send peace and blessings upon the Prophet (pbuh) alone.

Note: We intended to prove that the basic minimum requirement in regards to Salat, is sending Salat on Prophet(saw) alone which is an obligation and the addition of Aal is a recommendation but the mentioning of Aal is not obligatory.

Refutation of Shia arguments:

Argument 1

Shiawebsite[wilayat.net] Stated:

[Quote] Sending Salat upon the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) of course means sending Salat upon him and his Ah al-Bayt (عليهم السلام)! This is in line with mutawatir Hadiths. Shaykh al-Albani in his Sunan an-Nisai, Hadith Number 1285 records:

Narrated Abu Mas’ud al-Ansari: We went to Allah’s Apostle, peace be upon him, at the assembly of Sa’d bin ‘Ubada, and Bashir bin Sa’d said to Allah’s Apostle: “Allah the Glorious ORDERED us to invoke Salat upon you, O Allah’s Apostle. HOW SHOULD WE INVOKE SALAT ON YOU?” Allah’s Apostle, peace be upon him, kept quiet for so long that we wished Bashir had not asked him the question. Then he said: “Say: O Allah! Send Salat upon Muhammad AND UPON THE FAMILY OF MUHAMMAD just as You sent Salat upon the family of Ibrahim, AND BLESS Muhammad AND THE FAMILY OF MUHAMMAD as You blessed the family of Ibrahim AMONG THE WORLDS. Verily, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious.” [Quote]  [Screen Shot]

Reply 1: Hafiz Sakhawi in his book al-Qawl al-Badi Stated : As for the Prophet’s (upon him blessings and peace) teaching of how to invoke blessings on him when they queried him: he showed them the obligatory extent, then he added on top of it the level of perfection over and beyond the level of obligatoriness, whereas they had only asked him about blessing on him.

Secondly, his reply to those who queried him came up with various additions and omissions. The part that is deemed obligatory can only be what all the different versions agree upon, for if everything was equally obligatory, there would not have been shorter versions at certain times.

Reply 2: There are various types of Salat which could be send on Prophet Muhammad(Saw) , some of them contain the mention of “Aal” and some doesn’t contain the mentioning of Aal, some of which we have gathered in our article as examples. The type of Salat quoted by Shiawebsite is known as “salawaat ibrahimiyah” and even this has got different versions. This type of Salat is specially for prayer(Salah). But outside of the prayer, for example during supplication, there is evidence that salawaat ibrahimiyah is not obligatory, as we have proven above.

Imam Muslim in his Sahi(Bk 4, Number 0803) brought the same hadeeth which Shiawebsite quoted under, “Chapter 15: BLESSINGS ON THE PROPHET (MAY PEACE BE UPON HIM) AFTER TASHAHHUD”, which clearly shows that this type of Salat was specially for Salah/Namaz, because Tashahhud is a part of Salah/Namaz after which Salat(blessings) are sent upon Prophet(Saw).

Moreover, other narrations under the same chapter in Sahi Muslim, clearly prove that the “Salawaat Ibrahimiyah” was specially for Salah/Namaz.

Sahi muslim Bk 4, Number 0804) Ibn Abi Laila reported: Ka’b b. ‘Ujra met me and said: Should I not offer you a present (and added): The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) came to us and we said: We have learnt how to invoke peace upon you; (kindly tell us) how we should bless you. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Say:” O Allah: bless Muhammad and his Aal as Thou didst bless the Aal of Ibrahim. Verily Thou art Praiseworthy and Glorious, O Allah.”

Here we clearly find that when Prophet(saw)  approached his companions, they said to him that they know how to send “peace(salam)” on Prophet(Saw) [i.e in tashahud during salah] but they requested him to teach them that how should they send salawat on Prophet(Saw) during their Salah(prayer). Which further proves our explanation that “Salawaat Ibrahimiyah” which was quoted by Shiawebsite is specially for Salah(prayer). However we would like to clarify that we do not intend to say that Salawat Ibrahimiyah cannot be recited outside of the Salah(prayer), we believe that it can surely be recited but what we intend to prove here is that, it is not obligatory to recite Salawaat Ibrahimiyah outside of the Salah(prayer), Since there are different types of Salawat too which can be recited when we want to send Salat on Prophet(Saw).

Secondly, we would like to quote one version of Salawaat Ibrahimiyah, where we find that Sallee(salat) was sent on Prophet(saw) without the mention of Aal.

Oh Rasul Allah, this is the tasleem, but how do we pray upon you? He said: (Say Allahuma sallee ala Mohammed)O Allah! Send Your Salat on Muhammad, your servant and messenger, as You sent your Salat on Ibrahim and Grant favours to Mohammed and his Aal, like how you granted favours to Ibrahim and his Aal”(sahi bukhari #6358, vol 7) [See the Scan Page]

In the Qur’an, and all the other authentic quotes of the Prophet (pbuh), it literally says that one must send peace and blessings upon the Prophet (pbuh) alone.

Reply 3: When it comes to sending Salam on Prophet(saw), Sahaba said that they were taught how to send Salam on Prophet(Saw). While we see that the way Prophet(saw) taught people to send Salam on him, included Salam on all the righteous servants of Allah, Yet Sahaba considered it to be Salam on Prophet(Saw).

Sahi Muslim.Bk 4, Number 0793: ‘Abdullah (b. Mas’ud) said: One day the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said to us: Verily Allah is Himself Peace. When any one of you sits during the prayer. he should say: All services rendered by words, by acts of worship, and all good things are due to Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and Allah’s mercy and blessings. Peace be upon us and upon Allah’s upright servants, for when he says this it reaches every upright servant in heaven and earth (and say further): I testify that there is no god but Allah and I testify that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. Then he may choose any supplication which pleases him and offer it.

Now are Shias going to argue that one cannot send Salam on Prophet(Saw) in a different way, without the inclusion of upright servants? If they do so then they will have to admit that all their Salam on prophet(Saw) are invalid or incompelete. But Ahlesunnah are the ones who understand the text in the rational manner thus they believe that Salam on Prophet(Saw) outside of prayer can also be sent without the inclusion of righteous servants in it and the same applies to Salat on Prophet(Saw).

Argument 2

Shiawebsite[wilayat.net] then Stated:

[Quote] Moreover, al-Haythami records another Hadith in his Majma’ al-Zawaid, vol. 10, p. 160:

ALL du’as remain screened (i.e. unanswered) UNTIL the supplicant sends Salat upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad.

On its authenticity, al-Haythami states:

رجاله ثقات

Its narrators are trustworthy.[Quote]  [Screen Shot]

Here is the complete hadeeth.

Reported by at-Tabarani in “al-Awsat”:
721 – حدثنا أحمد قال حدثنا عامر بن سيار قال حدثنا عبد الكريم الخراز عن أبي إسحاق الهمداني عن الحارث وعاصم بن ضمرة عن علي قال : كل دعاء محجوب حتى يصلي على محمد وآل محمد لم يرو هذا الحديث عن أبي إسحاق إلا عبد الكريم الخراز
Chain: Ahmed – Amer bin siyar – Abdul kareem Al-Khuraaz – Abu Ishaq – Haris & Asim – Ali
To which al-Haythami in “Majmau zawaid” (17278) said: Its narrators are trustworthy.

Firstly, Al Haythami didn’t authenticate the hadeeth as it is apparent from the ruling. Shaykh Al-Albaanee(rah) explained in his lesson number 89, minute:18 to 23 from “Silsilah al-hudaa wan-Noor” :  The Statement of a scholar of hadeeth upon a hadeeth “Its men are the reliable ones/trustworthy” or his statement “Its men are the men of Saheeh”, does not mean that the chain of narration is authentic, rather we understand from the way they use these expressions that its chain of narration is not authentic; this is a very strange matter..”

So the statement of the scholar of hadeeth:“Its men are the reliable ones” or his statement “Its men are the men of Saheeh” then it means that its found in this chain of narration a condition from the conditions of correctness and that is the reliability of the narrators. [End quote]

So now it’s clear that al-Haythami didn’t authenticate the hadeeth but rather even he considered its chain to be unauthentic.

Imam Ibn Hajar Asqalani considered the similar report which had the common narrators which the above hadeeth has, as a Munkar(denounced) hadeeth

Chain: Abdul kareem al-Khuraaz – Abu Ishaq – Haris – Ali.

Supplication(dua) is concealed until one sends prayer upon Mohammed and his ahlul-bait

This hadeeths is munkir.

Hafidh bin Hajar said:  It has Abdulkarim al-Khuraaz.

Hafidh said {And from among his munkir narrations what was narrated by Abu al-Qasim al-Bagawi in book of Ubaid Allah al-Khashabi, narrations of this person al-Khuraaz from Abu Ishaq from al-Harith from Ali, “Supplication is concealed until one sends prayer upon Mohammed and his ahlul-bait” } (Lisan al-Mizaan 4/53)

Thus the same ruling will apply to the hadeeth quoted by Shiawebsite, since both of them have common narrators.

However there are more problems in the chain.

1) Which is obvious, is Abu Ishaq, and his tadlis.

2) Both narrators which reported it from Ali (al-Harith al-Awar and Aseem ibn Damrah) are problematic. al-Harith was weak. ibn Damrah was saduq inshAllah.

3) Aamir ibn Sayar was mentioned by ibn Abu Hatim in Jarh wa Tadel (1799), where he reported that his father said that he is majhool(unknown).

It was also reported by Beyhaki in Shuab al-emaan, with the same problems in the chain.

Which makes this narration a Munkar(denounced) if we go by the grading of Imam Ibn Hajar for the similar hadeeth.

Heretic Shia belief unveiled

Shiawebsite[Wilayat.net] Stated:

[Quote] Let us reflect at this point! The supplications of all these messengers and other chosen servants of Allah (عليهم السلام) remained unanswered until after they sent Salat upon Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and his Ahl al-Bayt (عليهم السلام).[Quote]  (screen Shot)

By Allah these shiatu dajjal have no respect for the messengers of Allah, at all. Just see that how they insulted the all the messengers of Allah, inorder to prove the superiority of Ahlelbayt. This is completely non-sense to claim that the supplications of all the previous messengers who were the beloved servants of Allah, were unanswered until they sent Salat on Ahlebyat of Prophet Muhammad(Saw). During the time of previous messengers, Muhammad(Saw) was not even born, So from where does the question of sending Salat on his Ahlelbayt came? Truly the Shiatu dajjal are brainless donkeys.

We know that the lay shias are blind in the love for Ahlelbayt thus they hesitate in practicing on any innovation(bidah) or believing in any heresy as long as it is linked with love for Ahlelbayt. This is the reason they are taken for a ride by these shia ghulats who fool in the name of love for Ahlelbayt, but we would like to remind the truthseeking shias who are being deceived by Shia ghulat that, Prophet(Saw) prophesized that people who will exaggerate in loving Ali(ra) are going to be ruined in hereafter.

Indeed these are the people who are the Ghulats, which means those who exaggerate the status of Ahlelbayt. Let us present the view of Shia Imam from Shia book regarding the Ghulats(i.e those who exaggerate the status of Ahlelbayt)

Abi Hashim al Ja’fri said: I asked aba al Hasan al Redha (as) about the ghulat and mufawwidha, so [Imam (as)] said: “The ghulat(exaggerators) are kuffar (disbelievers) and the mufawwidha are polytheists.(Uyun Akhbar al Redha by Shaikh Sadooq, Volume 1, Page 219)

Challenge: We challenge all the Shias of this world to quote us one verse of Quran, where any Messenger of Allah sent Salat on Ahlelbayt of Muhammad(Saw) after making any supplication.

And if Shias want then we will be glad to provide them ample evidences from Quran where different messengers of Allah supplicated to Allah without any mention of Salat being sent on Ahlelbayt of Muhammad(saw). This challenge will surely reveal before the people that who are upon true path and who are the deviated ones.

Refutation of the Shia accusation on Ahlesunnah about Salat al -batra(Shortened Salat)

The Shias who determined to somehow fool lay sunnis, often bring up some baseless accusations inorder to confuse the lay sunnis about their practices. One such accusation is that when Ahlesunnah recite/write “Salla Allahu ‘Alayhi wa-Sallam” (Peace and blessings be upon Prophet) after mentioning the Prophet’s name, the Shias object to this Salat by claiming that this is a shortened/mutilated and unacceptable Salat and they claim that one must say “Salla Allahu ‘Alayhi wa Alihi wa-Sallam”(Peace and blessings be upon Prophet and his aal).

Basically this saying is found in some book by Ibn Hajar al Haythami called al Sawa’eq al Muhriqa and maybe some other book, Ibn Hajar al Haythami narrated it using “it is said” which signifies that the narration is weak, there is no narrator actually for this Hadith and there isn’t even a chain of transmission till Prophet(saw).

Here is that chainless report:

لا تصلوا علي الصلاة البتراء

It is said that the Prophet PBUH said: Do not make al Salat al batraa (shortened prayer) on me.

Hadith grading: Baseless lie.

The Shia quote this fabricated Hadith to attack the rest of the Muslims and tell them that their Salat on the Prophet(saw) is incomplete. But the fact is that, this Hadith is extremely weak in both Sunni and even Shia books yet they quote it in order to attack others as it suits their desires.

Here is the response that was given on famous Fatwa site, Islamqa.com regarding this hadeeth:

There hasn’t been a solid hadith about the “salat al batraa” and it is among the forged and prevalent hadiths in the books of the shia and it has no basis in the books of hadith and sayings of the family and companions of the Prophet (pbuh). Imam al Sakhawi may God have mercy on him said: that the Prophet (pbuh) said – with an isnad which I don’t find reliable – “Don’t send peace upon me in the “batraa” way. They said “and what is the salat al batraa oh Messenger of God?” He said: “It is to say: Oh God send peace upon Muhammad, and leave it at that. Rather, say Oh God send peace upon Muhammad and Aal Muhammad” and this is found in Abu Sa’ad’s Sharaf al Mustafa in the section on “the elegant word on sending peace upon the beloved intercessor” – page 121. And the scholar Ibn Hajar al Haytami may God have mercy on him mentioned in “Sawahiq al Muhriqah”, chapter 2, page 430, that this hadith is weak, narrated without any merits in the books of the sunnah. (source)

Shiekh Gibril Haddad answered about this issue in this manner, He stated:

“The short form (without the Aal) is from the Divine command in the Holy Qur’an (33:56) and the short form is what the Prophet (upon him blessings and peace) mostly used, and others used when addressing him, as narrated by so many Sahaba from him such as `Ali b. Abi Talib, Ibn `Umar, `A’isha, Anas, Abu Talha al-Ansari, Usayd b. Hudayr, Fadala b. `Ubayd al-Ansari, Abu Barza al-Aslami, `Utban b. Malik and others, Allah be well-pleased with all of them.

Hajj Gibril Haddad” [End Fatwa] (Source)

Also, in this article we have already provided many examples from ahadeeth, where we find that Salat was sent on Prophet(Saw) alone without the inclusion of Aal, But if this is not sufficient for those Shias who are determined to deceive lay people, then we would like to present some reports from their own books, where Salat without the inclusion of Aal, was sent on Prophet Muhammad(saw). So they could easily judge themselves that where they stand when accusing Ahlesunnah of being Nawasib for sending Salat on Prophet(Saw) without the inclusion of Aal.

From the Shia’s most authentic book al-Kafi, their “infallible” Imams send a Mutilated/Shortened Salat on the Prophet(Saw):
ibn Mahboub from abdullah ibn Sinan from Imam abu abdullah PBUH he said: I heard the Imam say: “Allahuma Salli ‘ala Muhammad Saffiyika wa Khlilika…

Comment: As you can see the Imam didn’t send Salat on the Aal. He sent the salat similar to that of Ahlesunnah.

Hamad bin yahya from ahmad bin Muhammad from Ali bin al hakam from muawiya bin wahb from Imam abu Abdullah PBUH: the Imam’s son came to him one night and told him: Father I want to sleep, He replied: My son say this: “Ashhadu an La Ilaha Illa Allah wa Anna Muhammadan(Salat between parenthesis here is added by the author) Abduhu wa Rasuluhu (…at the end of the long Dua…) Allahuma Salli ‘ala Muhammadin ‘Abdika wa rasulika.” Then muawiya said: (…).

Comment: The Imam taught his son the Salat on Prophet(saw) without the inclusion of Aal. Similar to Similar Ahlesunnah.

Comment: Again Salat on Prophet(Saw) without the inclusion of Aal, just like Ahlsunah.

Ali(ra) is taught people a supplication:

And makes Tasbeeh thirty three times and says: Allah send your peace upon the unlettered Prophet(Salli Allah ala al-nabi al-ummi), may Allah reward Muhammad as he deserves because of his service to us, thirty three times.( Mustadrak al wasail vol 6, page 393 ; Munad imam Ali vol 3, page 299)

Interestingly, we find the Shia scholars accuse Ahlesunnah for sending Salat on Prophet(saw) alone, without the inclusion of Aal, and here we have provided AUTHENTIC Shia ahadeeth where there infallible Imams sent Salat on Prophet(Saw) alone, without the inclusion of Aal. So from this logic the result is that, the infallible shia Imams followed the teachings of Ahlesunnah Or it can be said that Ahlesunnah truly follows the Imams from Ahlelbayt.

Here are some videos where similar accusations of Shia scholars were refuted by Scholars of Ahlesunnah

Please note: In the second video when The Shia Scholar “Sayyid” Ali Asghar al Modarresi quotes a Hadith from Sahih Bukhari by Abu Hurraira (ra), that Shia scholar was blatantly lying because he knew that the Shias often blindly believe in their scholars. They believe in every heresy they narrate to them. And it’s pity a see that how lay Shias are fooled by such lies from Shia scholars, the Hadith which Shia scholar stated doesn’t exists in Bukhari and it wasn’t narrated by Abu Hurraira.

Conclusion:

So the conclusion is that, the Shias make up arguments against Ahlesunnah inorder to portray that they don’t love the Ahlelbayt of Prophet Muhammad(saw). But the fact is that due to their ignorance those accusations of Shias fall on Ahlelbayt and Prophet(Saw). The Shias have lost everything in their hatred towards Ahlesunnah.

“Truth has (now) arrived, and Falsehood perished: for Falsehood is (by its nature) bound to perish.” Quran (17:81)

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
