Nature of Relationship between Ahlebayt(ra) and Abubakar(ra).

Note: Part 1 is a must read before reading this part. Please read Part 1. And please read all the comments mentioned in this article.

The love Abubakr(as) had for Ahlelbayt(as)

Sahi bukhari 5.93: Narrated `Uqba bin Al−Harith: I saw Abu Bakr carrying Al Hasan and saying, “Let my father be sacrificed for you; you resemble the Prophet and not `Ali,” while `Ali was laughing at this.

Ahmad bin Abi Ya’qoob (a shi’ah author) mentioned in his book titled: Tareekh al Ya’qoobi: Abu Bakr meet Al Hasan bin ‘Ali bin Abi Taalib while he was playing in an area in Al Madinah. Upon seeing him, Abu Bakr said: I swear, you resemble the Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and you don’t resemble ‘Ali. (Shia book, Tareekh al Ya’qoobi vol.2 pg.117)

Sahi Bukhari 5.368: Narrated `Aisha: Fatima and Al−`Abbas came to Abu Bakr, claiming their inheritance of the Prophet’s land of Fadak and his share from Khaibar. Abu Bakr said, “I heard the Prophet saying, ‘Our property is not inherited, and whatever we leave is to be given in charity. But the family of Muhammad can take their sustenance from this property.’ By Allah, I(Abubakr) would love to do good to the Kith and kin of Allah’s Apostle rather than to my own Kith and kin. Bukhari narrated from Abu Bakr: “Please Muhammad(saw) by doing good to his family”( Saheeh”, bab fadail ashab. #3541).

When Abubakar(ra) saw that Fatima(ra) was unhappy so he said to her: I don’t deny your virtues and your closeness to prohet(Saw) , I just obeying the command of prophet(saw) didn’t give you fadak. I make Allah my witness that I have heard prophet(Saw) saying we prophets don’t leave inheritance , except the book and hikma and knowledge. In this issue I’m not alone , I have done this act on the agreement of muslims. If you want wealth then you can take as much as you want from my mine wealth, you are the leader of women , you are the shajra taiba for your children, No one can deny your virtues.(Shia book, haq ul yaqeen page 201, 202 )

Comment: Though this report is from shia book which is not hujjah upon Ahlesunnah, but on shias and this shows the love, care and concern Abubakr(ra) had for Fatima(ra). He did all possibile things in a best manner inorder to please Fatima(ra). He reminded her virtues and her high status inorder to please her.

The role of Abubakr(ra) in marriage of Ali(ra) and Fatima(ra)

We read in Shia scholar, Shaikh Tusi’s book Amali: The Prophet gave money to Abu Bakr and said “Bring clothes and other things needed for Fatima, and sent with him Ammar bin Yasir and some other Sahaba. Then they went to market, whatever they wanted to buy, they would first show it to Abu Bakr. After he agreed , than only that thing would be purchased. (Afterwards thing purchased are mentioned). Then they purchased the things , Abu Bakr took few things, the other companions took the other things and came back to the Prophet (s) and showed the things they bought to him. He checked the things and said “May Allah put blessings in it for the Ahlel Bayt”.

We read in Kitaab al Amalee by Abu Ja’far al Towsee (a shi’ah scholar and writer) that ‘Ali bin Abi Taalib informed that Abu Bakr and ‘Umar were responsible for his marriage to the Prophet’s daughter Fatimah!

Al Dahaaq bin Muzahim said: I heard ‘Ali bin Abi Taalib mention: I was visited by Abu Bakr and ‘Umar, and they said to me during their visit: Why don’t you approach the Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and request to marry his daughter Fatimah? I did as they suggested and when I entered upon the Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), he smiled and said: What has brought you here oh ‘Ali? I then mentioned to him my nearness (in relation) to him and my early acceptance of Islam. I also mentioned my support and assistance of him. He agreed with my statement, at which point I said: Would you marry me to Fatimah… (Kitaab al Amalee vol.1 pg.38)

This is also mentioned in Mulla Baqir Majlisi’s book, Jila ul Ayun (Chapter the marriage of Fatima to Ali) –

One day , Abu Bakr , Umar and Saad bin Muadh were sitting in the masjid nabwi. Abu Bakr said that the nobles of Quraish asked the Prophet (s) about the hand of Fatima (i.e they wanted to marry her), he replied that the matter of Fatima is with Allah, whomever He wills, He will marry her to him.” And Ali hasn’t talked to the Prophet (s) about this , and in my opinion, nothing is stopping Ali except poverty. Then Abu Bakr said to Umar and Muadh, stand up and lets go to Ali and convince him for asking the hand of Fatima , if poverty is stopping him, than we shall help him. Saad said “You are absolutely correct O Abu Bakr”. So they stood up and then went to Ali. Ali was not present at his home, He had gone to the garden of an Ansari to water it for wages. They reached there, Ali inquired the reason for their coming , upon which Abu Bakr said “You have excelled others in good deeds and you are close to the Prophet (s) also, what is prohibiting you from asking the hand of Fatima. When Ali heard this, his eyes filled with tears. He said “Who doesn’t want to marry Fatima? But due to poverty, I feel shy to express my sentiments.” So they convinced him for this matter and he agreed to go to the Prophet (s). Ali came back to his home, and then went towards the Prophet (s). (Jila ul Ayun, p. 122-123) ; Similar tradition is present in Bihar al Anwar , Vol. 10, p. 37-38.

The Prophet gave money to Abu Bakr and said “Bring clothes and other things needed for Fatima, and sent with him Ammar bin Yasir and some other Sahaba. He checked the things and said “May Allah put blessings in it for the Ahlel Bayt”

This is also mentioned in Jila ul Ayun, p. 126, chapter the marriage of Fatima to Ali, and in Manaqib ibn Shehr Ashoob, Vol. 4, p. 20.

Comment: These narrations taken from Shia books illustrates the tremendous love and concern present in the hearts of Abu Bakr and ‘Umar for their young brother ‘Ali, and how they intended all good for him by advising him to seek marriage to the Prophet’s daughter Fatimah.

Love and Respect of Ahlebayt(ra) for Abubakr(ra)

The Rafidah amongst the Shia told Zaid ibn ‘Ali ibn al-Hussein (rah) during his revolution that he has to abandon the love of Abu Bakr and ‘Umar and he replied: “They are the Companions of my grandfather”, they said to him: “Then we shall refuse you” so he said:”Go! for you are the Rejectionists(al-Rafidah).”[Tu’oun Rafidat al-Yaman fi Sahabat al-Rassul, p17 by Abu Nasr Muhammad ibn ‘Abdullah al-Imam and he said: SAHIH]

Suwaid ibn Ghaflah: I entered on ‘Ali ibn abi Talib during his emirate and said: “I passed by some folks who were talking about Abu Bakr and ‘Umar and saying that you have a deep hatred for both of them, one of those folks is ‘Abdullah ibn Saba, ‘Ali said: “I do not understand this wicked black man(Ibn Saba), I seek refuge in Allah from this matter and I only have deep beautiful respect for them.” Then he sent after Ibn Saba and exiled him to al-Madaen(In Yemen) and said: “He will not live in the same land with me.” He then went to his Mimbar and when the people gathered he complimented both of them and said nothing but good things about them. then he said: “If it reaches me that anyone prefers me over them then I shall lash them as they do with the slandering liar.”[al-Khateeb made Takhreej for it in “al-Kifayah” p376 and said that Abu ‘Abdullah al-Boushanji graded it as Sahih, Abu Nasr Muhammad ibn ‘Abdullah al-Imam said in the commentary: It is narrated through other chains, it is Thabit.]

From Jabir, from Mohammed bin Ali (Al-Baqir), “There is a consensus amoing the children of Fatima (as) to say the best possible praise for Abu Bakr and Omar.” (Fadha’il Al-Sahaba by Al-Daraqutni, p. 83)

Fadha’il Al-Sahaba (p. 86), Jabir said: I asked Abu Ja’afar Mohammed bin Ali if anyone from ahlul bayt cursed Abu Bakr and Omar? He said: God-forbid! Rather, they follow them, pray for forgiveness to them, and ask for mercy for them.”

Abu Sariha said that I heard Ali saying on the pulpit “Indeed Abu Bakr was very kind hearted person and indeed Umar was a well wisher of God’s religion, hence Allah did good to him.(tabqat ibn saad, vol 3, page 121)

From Bassam bin Abdullah al-Sayrafi: I asked Abu Ja’afar: What do you say about Abu bakr and ‘Umar may Allah be pleased with them? He replied: “By Allah I am loyal to them and I ask Allah to forgive them and we never met anyone from my family who was not loyal to them.” (Fadael al-Sahaba wa Manaqibihim wa Qawl Ba’adihim fi Ba’ad” by the famous scholar of Hadith al Darqutni)

From Isa bin Dinar al-Muatthin the mawla of ‘Amro bin al-Harith al-Khuza’ee: I asked Abu Ja’afar about Abu bakr and ‘Umar and he answered: Muslims, may Allah have mercy on them.
I told him: Should I be loyal to them and ask Allah to forgive them?
He said: Yes.
I said: Do you order me to do so?
He said: Yes, Yes, Yes three times and I take responsibility for what I say.
He continued saying: Ali may Allah be pleased with him was in al-Kufa for five years and he always spoke good of them and so did my father and so do I.(Fadael al-Sahaba wa Manaqibihim wa Qawl Ba’adihim fi Ba’ad” by the famous scholar of Hadith al Darqutni)

From Hilal bin Khabab from al-Hassan ibn Muhammad bin al-Hanafiyyah that he said: “O people of Kufa fear Allah and do not say bad things about Abu Bakr and ‘Umar, Abu bakr was al-Siddiq may Allah be pleased with him and he was the second of the two in the cave with the Prophet PBUH, and as for ‘Umar, Allah had strengthened Islam with ‘Umar.” .(Fadael al-Sahaba wa Manaqibihim wa Qawl Ba’adihim fi Ba’ad” by the famous scholar of Hadith al Darqutni)

Bihar al Anwar by al Majlisi 29/650:
“Ibn Muhammad bin abu bakr al Siddiq, her mother: Asmaa bint Abdul Rahman bin Abu bakr al Siddiq, for this Ja’afar PBUH said: I was born twice of Abu Bakr, look in Ihqaq al Haqq 1/66,64,67”

In “Kasfhul ghumma” Shia scholar Arbili quoted al-Hafith Abdulaziz, which said: Abu Abdullah Jafar ibn Muhammad ibn Ali ibn al-Hussain ibn Ali ibn Abu Talib (a), as-Sadiq, his mother was Ummu Farwa bintul Qaseem ibn Muhammad ibn Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (radiAllahu anhu), and her mother was Asma bintu Abdurrahman ibn Abu Bakr as-Siddiq, and due to that Jafar said: “Abu Bakr as-Siddiq born me twice“.

Its narrated from Abu Abdullah jafar sadiq(as) that he used to say: Abubakar have given me birth twice. Because that his mother umme farwa was the daughter of qasim bin muhammed bin abubaker and his grand mother asma was daughter of abdul rahman bin abubakar. (firq al shia , page 78)

Dhahabi said in “Siyari” 6 volume at page 255:
وأمه هي أم فروة بنت القاسم بن محمد بن أبي بكر التيمي، وأمها هي أسماء
بنت عبدالرحمن بن أبي بكر ولهذا كان يقول: ولدني أبو بكر الصديق مرتين.
And his mother was Ummu Farwa bintul Qaseem ibn Muhammad ibn Abu Bakr at-Taymi, and her mother was Asma bintu Abdurrahmanibn Abu Bakr, that’s why he use to say: “Abu Bakr as-Sadiq born me twice”.

A woman came to Ja`far As-Sadiq – the Six Imam – and asked him about Abu Bakr and
`Umar; whether to give them her loyalty.
“Yes,” he said.
“And when I meet my Lord, shall I say that you told me to follow them?” she inquired.
Again, he said, “Yes.(shia book, Al-Kâfî, Ar-Rawdah, 8:101)

In “Siyar” page 259 Dhahabi narrated:
وبه عن الدارقطني، حدثنا إسماعيل الصفار، حدثنا أبويحيى جعفر بن محمد الرازي، حدثنا علي بن محمد الطنافسي، حدثنا حنان بن سدير، سمعت جعفر بن محمد، وسئل عن أبي بكر وعمر، فقال: إنك تسألني عن رجلين قد أكلا من ثمار الجنة
By it by Al Daraqutni, which said: narrated Ismail el Saffar, which said: narrated Abu Yahya Ja’afar Bin Mohammad Al Razi, which said narrated Ali Bin Mohammad Al Tanafsi, which said: narrated Hanan Sadir: I heard Ja’afar Bin Mohammad and he was asked about Umar and Abu Bakr He said: “You Ask me of two Men who ate from the fruits of heaven”.

In At-tuyuriyyaat, jafar ibn muhamad reports on the authority of his father that a man said to Ali: We hear you say in your khutbah:O Allah! Grant us righteousness through the means you granted it to the rightly- guided caliphs; who are these caliphs? Ali’s eyes became wet with tears, and he said: The are my beloved ones, abubakr and umar the exemplars of guidance, the sheikhs of Islam, the two notables of the tribe of Quraysh who deserved to be followed after the death of the prophet(saw). He who followed them is safeguarded, and anyone who treads their path is guided to the path of righteousness. A person who clings to them becomes a members of All’s party. (Biographies of the rightly guided caliphs page 344)

Imam Jafar bin muhammed used to love Hz abubakar and hz umar such that, its narrated from him that :When he used to visit the grave of prophet(Saw) , Conveying salam on the grave of prophet(Saw) he used to Convey salam on hz abubakar and hz umar also. (sharah nahjul balagha, vol 4, page 140, Beirut)

One man asked imam sadiq(as) , o son of prophet(saw) , what do you say about abubakar(ra) and umar(ra) ? Imam sadiq said: Both imams were aadil, and just , both were on truth, and on truth they died, May allah shower his mercy until qayamah on them.( Ahqaq-ul-Haq , vol 1, page 16, misr)

Imaam adh-Dhahabee said in his Siyaar A’laam an-Nubalaa (5/390):
قال عيسى بن يونس جاءت الرافضة زيدا فقالوا تبرأ من أبي بكر وعمر حتى
ننصرك قال بل أتولاهما قالوا إذا نرفضك فمن ثم قيل لهم الرافضة
Eesaa bin Yoonus said: The Raafidah came to Zayd and said to him,“Free yourself from Abee Bakr and ‘Umar so that we can aid you.” He replied,“Rather I will give allegiance to them (i.e. Aboo Bakr and ‘Umar).” They said, “Then we reject you.” So then it was said to them, “ar-Raafidah” (the rejecters).”

It is reported from Sufyān b. ʿUyainah that a man once asked ʿAlī b. Ḥusayn b. ʿAlī b. ʾAbī Ṭālib(rah), What was the status of Abū Bakr and ʿUmar with Rasūlullāh – Allāh’s praise and peace be upon him? He replied, Their place with him is like their place with him today (i.e. where they are in their graves). [Abū Bakr Al-Daynūrī, Al-Mujālasah wa Jawāhir Al-ʿIlm 4:254]

Zaid bin ali bin hussain(ra) who holds an honor of very pious and respectable personality among the shias was asked by his companions about Abubakar(ra) and umar(ra) he replied:I always speak good of them and I have never heard any members of the family of the prophet speak badly of them. They have never persecuted us nor did they maltreat any other citizen. Both of them strictly followed the quran and sunnah of the prophet(Saw). Hearing this they said you are not our companion , they separated from him. He said today they have left us , from today they will be called rafidah. (Nasikh al tawaarikh vol 2, page 590.(under the heading zain ul abedin’s saying) this book is popular and regarded as a reliable shiiah document, see ayyan ush shiah (vol 2) page 132)

The care Ahlelbayt(ra) had for Abubakr(ra)

He (i.e Abu Bakr) went towards Dhil Qissa with his sword then Ali came and stopped him and said “O Caliph of Prophet (s), where are you going?” I want to say the same thing to you which the Prophet (s) said to you on the day of Uhud. Put your sword in its sheath and don’t put us in trouble regarding yourself. By God, if we got trouble regarding you, then the system of Islam will not stay correct, so Abu Bakr returned and sent an armed group.
[Tarikh ibn Kamil

Similarly we read:
“Two months after the demise of the Messenger – peace be upon him – Abu Bakr Al-Siddeeq went out and unsheathed his sword to fight the apostates (Ahl ar-Ridda) himself (In the Battel of Al-Qassah, when the Bedouins circled the Madina to siege it and get back at the Muslims while the army of ‘Usama Ibn Zaid was at the outskirts of Al-Sham (Jordan). Some Sahaba objected that and advised him to come back to Madinah, for his presence in Madinah (as the Khalifah) was of more importance (i.e. the Sahaba themselves will deal with the apostates). Among those who advised Abu Bakr was Ali Ibn Abi Talib who prevented him from his journey and said to him: Where are you heading, o Khalifatul-Rasulullah (Caliph of the Messenger of Allah!). Then ‘Ali Ibn Aby Talib – May Allah be pleased with him said to Abu Bakr, “I will tell you what the Messenger of Allah said in the battle of ‘Uhud, sheathe your sword and don’t stun us with your death, head back to Madina. By Allah, if you die Islam won’t see the light again.” [An authentic narrationby Ibn Katheer, Al-Bidaya wa Al-Nihaya (6/314-315 )]

That is why Ahlelbayt named their children Abubakr.

Ali showed his great love for the three Rightly-guided Caliphs who preceded him by naming three of his sons after them. The Shia books mention Abu Bakr Ibn `Ali Ibn Abu Talib, `Umar Ibn `Ali Ibn Abu Talib, and `Uthman Ibn `Ali Ibn Abu Talib[See At-Tubrasî, I`lâm Al-Warâ, p. 203, Al-Mufîd, Al-Irshâd, p. 186, Al-Ya`qûbî, Târîkh, 2:213, Abul-Faraj Al-Asfahânî, Maqâtil At-Tâlibiyyîn, p. 142, Al-Arbîlî, Kashful-Ghummah, 2:64, and Al-Majlisî, Jalâ’ Al-`Uyûn, p. 182.]

Abu Bakr Bin Ali Bin Abi Talib(son of Ali):
Died with Hussein RAA in Karbala, his mother is Layla Bint Masood Al Nahshaliyah. Mentionned by Al Mufid in Al Irshad P 248 – 186, Also in “Tareekh el Ya’aqoobi Fi Awlad Ali”, Muntaha el Amal for Abbas el Qummi 261/1 He mentions that his name is Mohammad and his surname is Abu Bakr “محمد يكنى بأبي بكر” p 544/1 and bihar el anwar for Majlisi 120/42.

Abu Bakr Bin Al Hassan Bin Ali Bin Abi Talib(son of Hassan):
died with his uncle Hussein in Karbala, Mentioned by Sheikh Al Mufid in Al Irshad under “Deaths In Karbala” ” قتلى كربلاء ” P 248 and “Tareekh al Ya’aqoobi Fi awlad el Hassan” and Muntaha el Amal for Abbas el Qummi 544/1 under “Martyrdom of the Bani Hashim Youths in Karbala” “استشهاد فتيان بني هاشم في كربلاء”.

Al-Husayn named his sons Abu Bakr and `Umar, and his sons did the same after him. This is an obvious expression of love for and affection for the Companions of the Prophet. This, too, is recorded in the Shia books.[ See At-Tubrasî, I`lâm Al-Warâ, p. 213, Al-Ya`qûbî, At-Târîkh (History), 2:228, Abul-Faraj Al-Asfahânî, Maqâtil At-Tâlibiyyîn, pp. 78, 119, Al-Mas`ûdî, At-Tanbîh wal-Ishrâf, p.263, and Al-Majlisî, Jalâ’ Al-`Uyûn, p. 582.]

Abu Bakr Ali Zain’ul Abedeen:
The Nickname for Ali Zain’ul Abedeen RAA was Abu bakr and this was mentioned in many locations Specially in “Al Anwar el Nu’umaniyah” for Ni’imatu’llah Al Jaza’eree “الأنوار النعمانية للجزائري”.

As for Imam Musa Ibn Ja`far, the Seventh Imam, one of his sons was also named Abu Bakr[Al-Arbîlî, Kashful-Ghummah, vol 2, page 217, and Abul-Faraj Al-Asfahânî, Maqâtil At-Tâlibiyyîn, p. 561.]

Abu Bakr Ali Bin Musa el Kathim Bin Ja’afar el Sadik:
Ali Al Redah RAA was nicknamed Abu Bakr and this is mentioned in Noori al Tabrasi’s Book “Al Noor Al Thakib fi Alqab wa Asma’a Al Hujjah al Gha’eb”:

أبو بكر وهي إحدى كُنى الإمام الرضا كما ذكرها أبو الفرج الأصفهاني في مقاتل الطالبيين.
“Abu Bakr is a nickname of Imam al Redah as Abu AlFaraj al Asfahani Mentioned in his book “مقاتل الطالبيين”.

Abu Bakr Mohammad al Mahdi al Mountazar ibn Al Hassan Al Askari:
Noori el Tabrasi said The Nickname of Al Mahdi Al Mountazar(Born before 1250 yrs according to twelvers) is Abu Bakr and this is mentioned in the exact same source as above.

Abu Bakr Ibn Abdullah Ibn Ja’afar ibn Abi Talib:
mentioned by The writer of “Ansab el Ashraf” “أنساب الأشراف ” P68: “Sons of AbduLLah Ibn Ja’afar…And Abu Bakr died with Hussein and thier mother Al Khawsa’a from Rabiah…”

And he was mentioned by Khalifah bin Khiyat In His History book P240 In “Naming Those who died from bani Hashim in The Day of Hurrah” “تسمية من قُتِلَ يوم الحرة من بني هاشم”.

Abdullah Ibn Ja`far Ibn Abu Talib had a son named Abu Bakr[Abû Faraj Al-Asfahânî, Maqâtil At-Tâlibiyyîn, p. 123.]

Comment: Thus we find that Ahlelbayt(ra) named their children “Abubakr” due to their immense love for “Abubakr Siddiq(ra)”. It should be noted that Abubakr was the not the real name of Abubakr Siddiq(ra), it was his nick name. His real name was “Abdullah” as stated by Imam Nawawi in his Tahdheeb. And we don’t find any other companion of Prophet(saw) who shared the nick name Abubakr, and this wasn’t even a common kuniya during the lifetime of Abubakr(ra). Thus we ask the unbiased Shias to ponder over the fact that why did so many members of Ahlelbayt gave this name to their Children? Which Abubakr was so virtues that it compelled Ahlelbayt to name their children Abubakr? Can the Shia bring forth another Abubakr(ra) other than Abubakr Siddiq(ra) who had countless virtues? Some deceptive Shias have tried to portray the name “Abubakr” was a very common name in Arabia and they provided few names to support this deceit. But the fact is that none of these men who had the name “Abubakr” were born before Ali(ra) named his son Abubakr. So the question still remains that who was that personality with the name Abubakr, who had so many virtues that Ahlelbayt named their children on his name? Please refer this article which refutes the Shia arguments regarding the issue of Ali(ra) naming his son Abubakr.{Response to: The Names of Imam Ali (as)’s Sons}

The relationships that took place between family of Ali(ra) and family of Abubakr(ra)

History tells us that relationships between the two families remained for a long time, hence we come to know from the history that Ali’s son Hasan married the grand daughter of Abu Bakr, i.e Hafsa bint Abdur Rahman bin Abu Bakr.

Similarly Hussain bin Ali’s grandson Imam Baqir bin Ali married Muhammad bin Abu Bakr’s grand daughter Umm Farwah bint Qasim. Out of this historical marriage, Imam Jafar was born , to whom Shias attribute their fiqh (jurisprudence).
Three other marriages are also noteworthy to be mentioned.
– Umm Salma bint Muhammad bin Talha bin Abdullah bin Abdur Rahman bin Abu Bakr married Musa bin Abdullah bin Hasan bin Hasan bin Ali.
– Umm Hakim bint Qasim bin Muhammad bin Abu Bakr married Ishaq bin Abdullah bin Abu Jafar bin Abu Talib
– Ishaq bin Abdullah bin Ali bin Hussain bin Ali married Kulthum bint Ismail bin Abdur Rahman bin Qasim bin Muhammad bin Abu Bakr.

Abu Bakr and Ali were related by marriage. Shaykh Ehsan Elahi Zaheer writes:
Asma bint Umais, as is already mentioned, was the wife of Ali’s real brother, Jafar ibn Abi Talib. When he died, she was married to Abu Bakr. She also gave birth to Abu Bakr’s son named Muhammad. Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) appointed him the governor of Egypt. After the death of Abu Bakr, Ali ibn Abi Talib married her. A son named Yahya was born out of the marriage.

al-Qassem ibn Muhammad ibn Abu Bakr (ra) he was one of the greatest scholars in Madinah, When Abu Bakr (ra) died his son Muhammad was very young so ‘Ali (ra) took him and raised him with love, then when Ali (ra) and Muhammad bin Abu Bakr (ra) both died it was ‘Aisha bint Abubakr(ra) who raised his son al-Qassem (rah).

The superiority of Abubakr(ra) attested by Ahlelbayt(ra).

From Salim bin abu al-Ja’ad that he was with Muhammad bin Ali in al-Shu’ab: I told him one day: O Abu Abdullah was Abu Bakr the first of the people to accept Islam?
Muhammad bin Ali replied: “No he was not.”
Then I asked: So how is it that he holds such a high status that everyone keeps speaking of him?
He answered me: “Because he was the best of them in Islam when he accepted it and he remained like that until Allah took his soul.” (Fadael al-Sahaba wa Manaqibihim wa Qawl Ba’adihim fi Ba’ad” by the famous scholar of Hadith al-Darqutni)

Imam Darimi narrated in his “Sunnan” (#1915) Darul kutub al-Arabi, Beirut, 1407, 1-st edition; Nasai “Sunnan al-Kubra” #3984; Beyhaki “Sunnan al-Kubra” #9220, Maktabatul Baaz, Mecca, 1414.

From Jabir ibn Abdullah, that when Ali reached Abu Bakr, as-Siddiq asked him: “(You came) as a commander or as a messenger?” Ali said: “Like a messenger”.(Sheikh Husain Sulaim Asad said chain is saheeh. )

Comment: In accordance to one of the customs of Arabs, making or severing any agreement between them could be done only by chief of that tribe (one of the sides) or by closest family member of him. They would not accept that from anyone other than these two (types). Year after Meccan peace treaty, Prophet (sallalahu alaihi wa ala alihi wa sallam) send Abu Bakr with group (of Muslims) for haj. When pilgrims left Madina, prophet (sallalahu alaihi wa ala alihi wa sallam) send Ali with verse 28 of surah at-Tawba, to announce that treaty with pagans was annulated. This shows us that Abubakr(ra) was the FIRST choice of Prophet(Saw) in that issue, hadn’t it been that it was to be done by closest family member then it would have been done by Abubakr(ra), who was the first choice of Prophet(Saw).

Sahi bukhari 2.333:Narrated Abu Salama from Ibn `Abbas : Abu Bakr came out and `Umar , was addressing the people, and Abu Bakr told him to sit down but `Umar refused. Abu Bakr again told him to sit down but `Umar again refused. Then Abu Bakr recited the Tashah−hud (i.e. none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and Muhammad is Allah’s Apostle) and the people attended to Abu Bakr and left `Umar. Abu Bakr said, “Amma ba’du, whoever amongst you worshipped Muhammad, then Muhammad is dead, but whoever worshipped Allah, Allah is alive and will never die. Allah said: ‘Muhammad is no more than an Apostle and indeed (many) Apostles have passed away before him ..(up to the) grateful.’ ” (3.144) (The narrator added, “By Allah, it was as if the people never knew that Allah had revealed this verse before till Abu Bakr recited it and then whoever heard it, started reciting it.”)

Ali(ra) narrates : Never did I compete with Abubakar in doing good deeds but found that he outdid me.(reported by At tabarani) (Biographies of the rightly guided caliphs page 22)

Sahi bukhari 5.20: Narrated Muhammad bin AlHanafiya: I asked my father (`Ali bin Abi Talib), “Who are the best people after Allah’s Apostle ?” He said, “Abu Bakr.” I asked, “Who then?” He said, “Then `Umar. ” I was afraid he would say “Uthman, so I said, “Then you?” He said, “I am only an ordinary person.

REFUTATION OF SHIA ARGUMENT TO REJECT SUPERIORTY OF ABUBAKR(ra):

Argument 1:

The above ahadeeth which we quoted where Ali(ra) himself stated that Abubakr(ra) and Umar(ra) were the best people after Prophet(Saw) are authentic and even Mutawattir(narrated through many different chain with different narrators, which makes it 100% authentic). Those narrations can’t even be rejected by Shias with the lame excuse of Taqiyya, because Ali(ra) narrated those reports in his sermons after he became Caliph. And in the above hadeeth from bukhari we find that Ali(ra) stated this fact to his own son, Muhammad bin Hanafiya, Thus only a biased ignorant could reject these reports claiming them to be Taqiyya.

1.We know that no sane person could reject these mutawattir narrations, but there are some ignorants who claim that, the reason Ali(ra) said that Abubakr(ra) and Umar(ra) were the best people after Prophet(Saw) was due to humbleness, where as Ali(ra) didn’t believe in it. This argument is illogical and stupid because the argument of humblesness would have been valid, if the questions would have asked Ali(ra) the question of superiority provided with the options. Like to whom does Ali(ra) consider to be the best of people after Prophet(saw), Whether Abubakr or Umar or Ali. If this would have been then case then the claim that the reply of Ali(ra) was out of humbleness would have been considerable, but in the narration which we provided from Sahi Bukhari, there we find that Ali(ra) wasn’t given any Choice, that whether he considers himself superior or ABubakr(ra) superior or not. The Son of Ali(ra) just asked him that who were the best people after prophet(saw), WITHOUT ANY Choices given to him. Yet even then Ali(ra) named Abubakr(ra) and Umar(ra), this shatters the weak argument of Shias.

2.Further we notice that, Ali(ra) didn’t name any other companion. If he was being humble then he(ra) should have said that all sahaba are at same level. We find Ali(ra) specificaly naming Abubakr and Umar.

3.Why did Ali(ra) differentiate between Abubakr and Umar ? If he was being humble, then he should have applied the same rule towards Abubakr(ra) and Umar(ra), that both were at same level, but he said after Prophet(Saw) Abubaklr is the best and then after him, Umar.

4. The Shias sometimes quote a narration from Bukhari inorder to prove that what Ali(ra) said was out of humbleness. Here is that narration: {Sahi bukhari 6.128:Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, “Whoever says that I am better than Jonah bin Matta, is a liar”.}
This report can be explained in the way that, there are no quotation marks in Arabic. Therefore the hadith could be read as {“Whoever says I am better than Yunus b. Matta,” but it could very well also read as “Whoever says, ‘I am better than Yunus b. Matta’ is a liar.”} Infact, the intent of the hadith is that some people might read the story of Yunus(as) in the Qur’an and think poorly of him because of the punishment he received because of his mistake. This is a warning to such jahil people to not look down upon this great prophet or to think highly of themselves. So what prophet(Saw) meant was that, Whoever considers himself to be better than Yunus(as) is a liar.  Also the other way to understand this hadeeth is that Muslims shouldn’t argue with the Ahle-Kitab regarding the superiority of Prophets  or in their comparision of one with another, because they could end up belittling the other Prophets of Allah(swt).

5. Shias also quoted a fabricated hadeeth to reject the authentic and mutawattir hadeeth which states that according to Ali(ra) the best people after Prophet(Saw) were Abubakr(ra) and Umar(ra). The fabricated hadeeth used by Shias is hadeeth of bird(Tayr), This hadeeth which is present in Sunni books is fabricated according to Sunnis standards and this report is even weak in Shia books as per Shia standards.

Argument 2:

Imam Abu Nu’aym isfahani (d.430) in hilyatul awliya reports with asnaad from abul bakhtari and also reported in kanzul ummal by muttaqi hindi (d. 975) volume 13, page 5:
عن أبي البختري قال: خطب علي فقال: ألا! إن خير هذه الأمة بعد نبيها ابو بكر و عمر فقال رجلٌ: وأنت يا أمير المؤمنين? فقال: نحن أهل البيت لا يوازينا أحد.

“abul bakhtari says that Imam Ali gave a khutba that best of the ummah is Abu bakr and Umar. And a man asked him: what about you Amir al-muminin? He replied: we are Ahl al-bayt and no one can be compared with us!”

Answer:

The narrator from Shu’bah, Abu Qatada al-Harrani was matrook(abandoned). That’s why Abu Nu’aim after relating this narration said: “This is Ghareeb as a hadith of Shu’bah from Ataa bin Saa’ib. Abu Qatadah is alone in narrating it”. Moreover, Abul bakhtari didn’t hear it from Ali according to Yahya bin Ma’een. So the most obvious weakness in this report is disconnection. Lastly it even goes against the established authentic report from Sahi bukhari, which we quoted above where Ali(ra) didn’t say anything as such, infact what he said is completely opposite to this extremely weak hadeeth.

Argument 3:

Abdullāh bin Ahmad bin Hanbal quotes his father as saying: No narration with genuine isnād (chain of authority) has been related on the merits of anyone else (of the companions), as in the case of ‘Alī. He further states: I asked my father what credence he had concerning the preferential merits of the companions? He replied: In the matter of caliphate, Abū Bakr, ‘Umar and ‘Uthmān are superior to all others. I asked him what about ‘Alī? He answered: O my son! ‘Alī bin Abī Tālib is from a family concerning whom (whose merits) no one can deliberate.Reference: Ibn al-Jawzī, Manāqib al-Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal .

Answer:

Weak due to Ahmad bin Qaasim bin Rayyaan who narrate this from Abdullah bin AHmed. Allah knows best.

Moreover, authentic reports from imam Ahmed shows that he was very harsh against those that put Ali in front of Uthman

Ishaq reported that Aba Abdullah (Ahmad ibn Hanbal) was asked about a  man who doesn’t prefer Uthman on Ali. He (ibn Hanbal) replied: ‘It is  must to prefer Uthman over Ali, there was no disagreement amongst the  companions of the prophet (p.b.u.h) about Uthman being better than Ali  may Allah mercy be upon them’.[The isnaad is Sahih.

Imam Jafar(as) said: Abu Bakr at the time of his death, when asked to make a will, made a will about one-fifth of his legacy saying, “One-fifth is a great deal.” Allah, most High, has approved wills about one-fifth. So he made a will about one-fifth. Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, had given the right to make a will about one-third of one’s legacy at the time of one’s death. If he knew that one-third is better for him he would have made a will for one-third. People other than abu Bakr, as you know their excellence and restraint from the worldly matters, were Salman and abu Dharr, may Allah be happy with them.(Al-Kafi, vol 5, page 68).

Sila bin Nadhar narrates when Abu Bakr was mentioned in front of Ali , then he would say “a person who excelled others greatly is being mentioned, by the One in whose hand is my life, whenever we intended to do a good work, then Abu Bakr excelled us in that “.(Riyadh al Nazirah, vol1, pg 156 ; Kanzul Amal, vol 6, page 813)

The reliability of Abubakr(ra) in the sight of Ahlelbayt(ra)

Narrated Abu Bakr as-Siddiq: Asma’ bint al-Hakam said: I heard Ali say: I was a man; when I heard a tradition from the Apostle of Allah (saw), Allah benefited me with it as much as He willed. But when some one of his companions narrated a tradition to me I adjured him. When he took an oath, I testified him.  AbuBakr narrated to me a tradition, and AbuBakr narrated truthfully. He said: I heard the apostle of Allah (saw) saying: When a servant (of Allah) commits a sin, and he performs ablution well, and then stands and prays two rak’ahs, and asks pardon of Allah, Allah pardons him. He then recited this verse: “And those who, when they commit indecency or wrong their souls, remember Allah” (iii.134). (Dawood Book 8, Number 1516)
Comment: We find in this narration that Ali(ra) used to take narrations from Abubakr(ra) because of the truthfulness of Abubakr(ra).

Ahlelbayt(ra) affirmed that Abubakr(ra) was titled as “Siddiq”

Uthman bin Ja’afar bin Muhammad bin Ismael al Subei’ee told us: Hilal bin al ‘Alaa bin Hilal al Bahili told us: my father told me: Ishaq al Azraq told us: Abu Sinan told us: al-Dahhaq bin Muzahim told us from al Nazzal bin Sabrah al Hilali: We were with Ali bin abi Talib (ra) one day and we told him: “O Ameer al Mumineen, tell us about your companions.” He said:”Every companion of the Prophet PBUH was also my companion.” They said: “then tell us about the companions of the Prophet PBUH” He said: “Ask me” we said: “Tell us about Abu bakr” He replied: ” That is a Man called al-Siddiq by Allah through Gabriel and Muhammad PBUH, He was the successor of the messenger of Allah in leading the prayer, He PBUH had accepted him for our religion so we accepted him for our life.“[al-Lalikaee made Takhreej for this in #2455, , Abu Nasr Muhammad ibn ‘Abdullah al-Imam said in the commentary: Isnaduhu Hasan.]

U’rwa bin Abdullah says: I asked Imam Baqir [A.S], how is to do ornamentation on sword? He (Imam Baqir) replied: It is fine (legitimate) since Abu Bakr Siddiq [R.A] had also costumed (ornamented) his sword. I asked, do you also call him as Siddiq? Imam Baqir stood up in awe and facing towards the Qiblah, said: “Yes he is Siddiq! Yes he is Siddiq! Yes he is Siddiq”; the one who not say him (Abu Bakr) a Siddiq, may Allah falsify his sayings both in the world and hereafter. (shia book, Kashf-ul-Ghumma fi Ma’rifat-il A’aima; by: Isa bin Irbili; vol 2, pg 147; Chapter: Imam abi Ja’far (Imam Baqir), the 5th Imam) (Bihaar al-Anwaar, al-Majlisi, vol. 92 p. 651)

A narration similar to above one is even present in the book of Ahlesunnah, Imam Ahmad ibne Hanbal narrated it in Fadhail-e-Sahaba:

The saying shows that Allah swt gave Abu bakr[ra] this title of SIDDIQ [true believing person or the person who never doubted anything] according to the Hadith of Ali Ibn Abi Talib[ra]:

أنه كان يحلف أن الله أنزل اسم أبي بكر من السماء الصديق

Usayd ibn safwaan reports that Ali(ra) said concerning the verse “And he who brings that truth and he who confirms(and supports) it such are the men who do right” (az zumar :33) “he who brings the truth” refers to prophet(Saw) and “he who confirms(and supports)” it refers to Abubakar as sideeq(ra). (reported by al bazzaar and ibn Asakir) (Biographies of the rightly guided caliphs page 10)

In the Tafseer of ‘Ali bin Ibrahim, my father told me from some of his rijal to abi ‘abdullah (as) that he said: When the prophet SAWS was in the cave he told Abu Bakr: It is as if I see the ship of Ja’afar and his companions in the sea and I see the Ansars sitting in the gardens of their houses, so Abu Bakr said: “You see them Ya Rassul-Allah?” he said: “yes” he said: “will you show me” so he wiped on his eyes and he saw them so the prophet said: You are al-Siddiq.[Shia book, Tafseer Noor al-Thaqalayn – sheikh al-Huweizi (d. 1112 AH) vol 2 pg 220]

Comment: Due to the hatred Shias possess for Abubakr(ra), they weren’t able to digest the presence of this hadeeth which shows the virtue of Abubakr(ra), that is why the Shias have attempted to tamper their books. To know more about this tampering of Shias please follow this link. [Click Here]

However, due to the established historical fact that Abubakr(ra) was titled as “Siddiq”, The Shia Scholars have called Abu Bakr(ra) by his title “al Siddiq” in their books and do not deny it:

Ahlelbayt believed that Abubakr(ra) was among the first Muslims.

Ibn al-Jawziyy mentioned in his book “Sifat-us-Safwah”: “Hassan Ibn Thabit, Ibn Abbas, Asma Bintu Abi Bakr, and Ibrahim an-Nakhiyy said: “The first one who embraced Islam was Abu Bakr”.  Ibn Abbas said: “The first one who prayed was Abu Bakr.”

The bravery and courage of Abubakr(ra) narrated by Ahlelbayt(ra).

Once during his caliphate, Ali ibn Abee Taalib stood up before the people and delivered the following sermon: “O people, who is the bravest of all people?” Those that were present answered, “You are, O Leader of the Believers.” Ali said, “Lo, I never entered into a duel with another man except that I came out victorious over him. And yet, the bravest of all people was none other than Abu Bakr Ra. We once build a command centre for the Messenger of Allah SAW, and we said, “Who will stay with the Messenger of Allah SAW, so as to prevent the polytheists from attacking him? By Allah, not a single one of us approached (to volunteer for the job) except for Abu Bakr Ra, who, with his sword unsheathed, stood over the head of the Messenger of Allah SAW. Abu Bakr Ra then fought against anyone who tried to attack.

I remember the time when I saw the Quraish opposing the Prophet SAW and physically shaking him violently, and all the while they were saying to him, “Have you taken our Gods and made them into one God!” By Allah, not a single one of us stepped forward (to defend him) except for Abu Bakr Ra, who struggled against and struck one man and pushed violently another; all the while he was saying (to them), “Woe upon you, are you fighting against a man because he says: My Lord is Allah?” Ali Ra then lifted the robe he was wearing, and he began to cry until his beard became soaked in tears. He then continued, “I ask you by Allah, was the believer from the family of the Pharaoh better or Abu Bakr?” The attendees of the gathers then began to cry along with Ali Ra, who said, “By Allah, Abu Bakr for an hour is better than the believer of the family of the Pharaoh even if clones of him were to fill the entire earth: the latter kept his faith a secret while the former openly proclaimed his faith”[Al-Bidaayah Wan-Nihaayah (3/271, 272)]

Similarly it was also reported in Al mustadrak:

Ali’s RA nephew Muhammad Bin Aqeel bin Abu Talib May Allah be pleased with him told us: Ali made a Sermon to us and he said: O people, Who was the bravest amongst the people? We said: You O Ameer al Mumineen, He said: That is Abu Bakr al Siddeeq when we were on the day of Badr we placed a cover for the Prophet PBUH to shade him and we said: Who will stand near him When the Mushriks come seeking him and would prevent them? And Abu bakr was the one who stood up and he raised his sword above his head whenever a person came near the prophet PBUH he would strike them with it… (He continues in a long hadith)…Then Ali asked his companions: By Allah I ask you, which of the two is best? a believer of the folk of Pharaoh or Abu bakr? The people remained silent, Ali then Said: By Allah Abu Bakr is much better than a believer from the folk of Pharaoh, That is a Man who kept his belief hidden in his heart So Allah Praised him But Abu Bakr had sacrificed his self and his blood for Allah.(Al Mustadrak (3/67) He said SAHIH on the condition of Muslim and Imam al Thahabi Agreed with him.)

According to Ahlelbayt(ra), the first person who gathered the Quran was Abubakr(ra).

ibn Abu Dawud reported in his (book) “al-Maskahif” via good chain from Abdulhayr: I heard Ali said: “Greatest reward in (serving) to Muskhaf belongs to Abu Bakr. May mercy of Allah be upon Abu Bakr. He was first who gathered Quran”. (Suyuti in his brilliant work “Itqan fi ulumil Quran” , chapter 18.)

Abd Khayr said: I heard Ali bin Abi Talib may Allah be pleased with him saying: “The Person who has the most reward when it comes to the Mushaf(Quran) is Abu Bakr al Siddeeq, he is the first who combined what is between the two boards.”(Mukhtasar min kitab al Muwafaqah p44 also in Fada’el al Quran for Ibn Katheer, Isnad is SAHIH.)

The views of Ahlebayt(ra) regarding the Khilafah of Abubakr(ra).

Abu Bakr (ra) took the Bay`ah at Saqifa and then it was followed by the general Bay`ah from the nation at the Prophet’s (SAWS) mosque, later `Ali (ra) and al-Zubayr (ra) came to offer their Bay`ah to him as we read, and this is what happened after it.

[abu Hafs `Umar bin Ayyub al-Siqati told us, Muhammad bin Mu`awiyah bin Malaj said, `Ali bin Hisham told us, from his father, from abu al-Jahhaf that he said:
Abu Bakr (ra) stood up three times after he received Bay`ah from `Ali (ra) and his companions, saying: “O people, I shall return your Bay`ah to you, does anyone dislike this?” he said: So `Ali (ra) would stand among the first of them and say: “No by Allah we shall not let you retire, if the messenger of Allah (SAWS) placed you ahead (means leading Salat), then who can put you behind.”] ( al-Shari`ah lil-Aajurri (b.280 – d.360 AH).]

Comment: This narration does not originate from “Nawasib” as the Shias might think, it has three narrators who are Shia:
1- `Ali bin Hashim is a Kufan who is a Shia and is from a Shia family but is “Saduq”.
2- His father, Hashim bin Burayd is a stubborn Shia, but is a Thiqah.
3- Dawoud bin Suwayd is an extremist Shia from Kufa, but his narrations are authenticated by Ahmad, al-Thawri, al-Nasa’i, al-`Asqalani & al-Razi.

Ja’afar bin Muhammad (al Sadiq), from his Father Muhammad bin Ali (al Baqir), from Abdullah ibn Ja’afar bin Abi Talib that he said: ” Abu Bakr al Siddeeq may Allah be pleased with him became our Caliph and he was the best of the Caliphs of Allah, he was most merciful and most caring towards us. ”

Comment: Ahlelbayt themselve testified that how mericul and kind Abubakr(ra) was towards Ahlelbayt. So are the shiatu dajjal going to reject the testimony of Ahlelbayt?

Imam Baqir narrates from Abdullah ibn Jafar that he said : Abu Bakr(ra) became our ruler, and he was the best caliph of Allah, and he was the most merciful and kind upon us. [Mustadrak Hakim Vol. 3, p. 79]

Ja’afar from his father that he heard from Abdullah bin Ja’afar that he said: Abu Bakr al-Siddiq became our ruler and no one ruled us like he did. …”( Fadael al-Sahaba wa Manaqibihim wa Qawl Ba’adihim fi Ba’ad” by the famous scholar of Hadith al-Darqutni)
Grading: Sahih.

Another authentic narration confirms that Ali was pleased, after being upset (for not being CONSULTED in Saqifah). And as the people who are unbiased know that all of those Narrations about hitting Fatima (ra) or burning her house are weak fabrications. It is true that ‘Ali (ra) met with al-Zubair (ra) to discuss things in Fatima’s (ra) house but as you read in the authentic Hadith:

“Ibrahim the son of Abdul-Rahman Ebn Awf narrated to us that (his father) Abdul-Rahman Ebn Awf was with Omar Ebn Al-Khattab when Mohammad Ebn Maslamah broke the sword of Al-Zubayr, then Abu Bakr started his speech and apologised to the people and said:’By Allah, I’ve not been eager for power (Al-Imara/Rulership), not at any day or night at all. I was not interested in it, neither did I asked Allah in secrecy nor in public for it,yet I felt pity for the Fitnah […]Thereupon the Muhajir (Sahabah) accepted the speech and apology and Ali (Ebn Abi Talib) and Al-Zubayr said:’We got only angry for being delayed in the matters of consultation [at Saqifah], in other respects we believe that Abu Bakr is the most deserving of the Caliphate after Rasulullah peace and blessings be upon him: He was the companion of the Messenger of Allah in the cave, and verily, we are well aware of his privilege and greatness. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessing be upon him, had ordered him to lead the prayers while he was alive.”[Al-Hakim said in his Al Mustadrak 3/70. 4422: Sahih according to the conditions of the Shaykhayn, they did not narrated it and Al-Dhahabi agreed with Al-Hakim
Ebn Kathir in his Al Bidayah wa Al-Nihayah, Vol 5 said:’It’s chain is authentic, walillahi Al-Hamdu wal-Minnah]

Comment: Ahlelbayt acknowledged that Abubakr(ra) was the most deserving of the people for the position of Caliphate.

Ibn Abil-Hadeed Shii al-Motathele in his “Sharhul nahjul balagha” 2/50 wrote:
وقال علي والزبير : ما غضبنا إلا في المشورة ، وإنا لنرى أبا بكر أحق الناس بها ، إنه لصاحب الغار ، وإنا لنعرف له سنة ، ولقد أمره رسول الله ص بالصلاة بالناس وهو حي
Ali and Zubayr said: We didn’t become angry (due to anything except we were not included) in consultation, we see Abu Bakr most worthy from people to that, he was companion in cave, and we assume to him sunnat, and prophet (sallalahu alaihi wa ala alihi wa sallam) order him to (lead) people in pray when he was still alive”

Ali(ra) is reported to have said in shia book:
و إنا لنرى أبا بكر أحق بها – أي بالخلافة – إنه لصاحب الغار. و إنا لنعرف سنه. و لقد أمرنا رسول الله صلى الله عليه و سلم بالصلاة خلفه و هو حي )))). نهج البلاغة، تحقيق العالم الشيعي الشريف الرضي 1 / 132
Ali(ra) said: “And we see Abu Bakr more fit to receive it (Caliphate) For he is Sahib Al Ghar (Mentioned in the Quran as the second of Two whom Allah is their third) and we know his age and the Prophet PBUH had ordered us to pray Behind him when he was Alive”. (Nahjul Balagha, Tahqeeq Allamah Shareef el Redah 1/132).

Ali came to Abu Bakr and said: I don’t refuse to admit that your virtues entitle you to the Caliphate. My sole complaint is that we are the close relatives of the Prophet, (so) why did you then take Bayaah at Saqifah Banu Saidah without consulting us? Had you called us there, we would have taken Bayaah at your hand ahead of everyone. Abu Bakr said in reply: To treat the relatives of the Prophet well is dearer and more desirable to me than to do so for my own relatives. I went to Saqifah Banu Saidah not for the taking of Bayaah but for putting an end to the dispute I did not seek their support (for Caliphate). Rather, they took their oath of allegiance to me on their own Had I delayed the matter, it would have posed a greater danger to the unity, integrity, and solidarity of Islam. How could I send for you when there was no time? Ali listened with rapt attention to what Abu Bakr Siddiq said and withdrew his complaint gracefully.(Tareekh al-Islam, Vol.1, pp.275-276)

Narrated Qays bin al Abdi: I Witnessed the Sermon of Ali on the Day of Basarah, he said: ” He praised Allah and thanked him and he mentioned the Prophet PBUH and his sacrifice to the people, then Allah swt took his soul, Then the Muslims saw that they should give the Caliphate to Abu bakr (RA) so they pledged their allegiance and made their promise of loyalty, and I gave my pledge and I promised him my loyalty, They were pleased and so was I. He(Abu Bakr) did good deeds and made Jihad until Allah took his soul may Allah have mercy on him.”

Al Sunnah for Abdullah bin Ahmad (2/563) The Narrators are all trustworthy.

Qais bin Mukhariqi says that he heard Ali saying while he was on the pulpit. The Prophet (s) preceeded us in death , and then Abu Bakr and then Umar, than fitnahs worried us, fitnahs came and that happened what Allah had willed.(Musnad Ahmed , vol 1, page 137) (Tabqat ibn saad, vol 9, page 89)
Comment: Ali(ra) didn’t consider the Caliphate of Abubakr(ra) and Umar(ra) as Fitnah, rather he considered their Caliphate as the period of peace. And he considered what occurred after it to be Fitnah, that is, the rebellion against Uthman(ra) and his martydom, and what all occurred after it.

They said to Ali: Will you not appoint a successor? He said: The Prophet PBUH did not appoint a successor so that I may do so, If Allah wishes that something good happens to you then he will make you all gather around the best (Man) amongst you just like he made them gather around the best Man (i.e Abu bakr) after their prophet PBUH.

Ibn Saad narrated with an Isnad to al Hassan bin Ali that he said: Ali Said: When Allah took the soul of his prophet PBUH we looked into our affair and we found that the Prophet PBUH had preferred Abu Bakr in the Salat (Imam of Prayer) so we accepted for our Duniyah what the prophet PBUH had accepted for our Deen and we preferred Abu bakr.

Amro bin Sufiyan said: When Ali came on the day of Jamal he said: “O people, the Apostle of Allah did not promise us anything regarding this Imarah (Caliphate/Succession) until we saw in our own opinion that we must appoint Abu Bakr and he took a straight path then he left us, Then Abu Bakr saw it in his opinion to appoint Umar who in turn walked a straight path then he left us, Then came people who were after the Duniyah (life’s pleasures) and many things happened in which only Allah is the judge”

Arqam bin Shurahbil narrated: I traveled with ibn ‘Abbas from al-Madinah to al-Sham, so I asked him: Did the Prophet SAWS write a will or recommend? He replied: When the Prophet SAWS was in his last illness from which he passed away, and he (ibn ‘Abbas) mentioned a long Hadith and in it he SAWS said: Let Abu Bakr lead the people in prayer, so he did and then the Prophet SAWS saw that he was in a good state of health so he went out to the prayer while leaning on two men, and when the people sensed his presence they made Tasbeeh (praised Allah in a loud voice) so Abu Bakr (who was leading the prayer) would step back and point with his hand to the Prophet SAWS, then the Prophet SAWS led the prayer and began reciting from where Abu Bakr last stopped, Abu Bakr was standing and the Prophet SAWS was sitting so he stood behind him and took him as an Imam, while the people later stood behind Abu Bakr as their Imam.

Ali said: “If I didn’t feel that he (Abu Bakr) deserved to rule, I would have not allowed him to do so.” (Sharh Nahj al Balagha by Ibn Abi al Hadeed vol.2 pg.45)

I read to Abi al Fihm bin Ahmed Alsalmi, Abu Ahmed Abdullah bin Ahmed the jurisprudent told you in the year 617 (AH), Abu al Fatih Muhammad bin Abd al Baqi told us, Malik bin Ahmed told us in the year 484, Ali bin Muhammad bin Abdullah al Adl dictated to us in the year 406, Abu Ali Ahmed bin Al Fadl bin Khuzaymah narrated to us, Abdullah bin Rooh narrated to us, Shabaabah narrated, Abu Bakr an Hizli narrated, from al Hassan who said: When Ali came to Basrah, Ibn al Kuwaa came to him, and Qays bin Abaad came so they said to him: Won’t you tell us about this expedition of yours, you are reigning over the ummah which is slicing at each other, the Prophet (pbuh) promised you what he promised, so he told us, and you are trustworthy regarding what you heard, he(Ali) said: As for having a promise with the Prophet (pbuh) in that matter, I did not, by God if I was the first person to believe in him I will not be the first to lie about him, and if I had from the Prophet (pbuh) a promise about that matter, I would not have left the brother of bani teem bin murrah or Umar bin al Khattab to take their place on the minbar, I would have fought them with my own hands, even if by my words, but the Prophet (pbuh) was not murdered, nor did he die suddenly, he remained sick for days and nights, the caller to prayer would come to him to announce the prayer, and he would order Abu Bakr to pray as Imam for the people, and he (pbuh) saw my place, and the announcer to prayer would call to prayer, and he would command Abu Bakr to pray as imam for the people, and he (pbuh) saw my place, and one of his womenfolk wanted to distance him from Abu Bakr but he became angry and said: You are the friends of Yousef, command Abu Bakr to lead the prayer. When God took His Prophet (pbuh), we looked at our affairs, and we chose for our world who the Prophet (pbuh) chose for our religion, and the prayer was the root of Islam, and the most important matter, and the pillar of the religion. So we gave the pledge of allegiance to Abu Bakr, and he deserved that, and not even two among us disagreed about that, nor did we bear witness against each other, nor did we accuse him of anything, so I gave Abu Bakr his rights, and I obeyed him, and I fought alongside his soldiers, and I used to take if he gave me, and fight if he commanded me, and by his command reach the borders, and when he died, he passed the responsibility to Omar, and he took by the sunnah of his friend, and he was indistinguishable from him, so we gave him the pledge of allegiance, nor did two of us disagree on the matter, nor did we bear witness against each other, nor did we accuse him of anything. So I gave Omar his rights, and I obeyed him, and I fought alongside his armies, and I took if he gave me, and fight if he commanded me, and by his command reach the borders and when he died I remembered my close relations [to the Prophet (pbuh)] and precedence and predecessor-ship and virtues, and I felt nobody was equal to me, but it was feared that a Khalifah would not be able to commit a sin except that it would follow him to the grave, and that it would remove him and his sons from it, and if it were favoritism he would have inherited it to his son but he didn’t allow his son to take it and left the matter to the decision of 6 from Quraysh, I was one of them, and when the 6 got together I remembered my close relations [to the Prophet (pbuh)] and precedence and predecessor-ship and virtues, and I thought they would not be fair to me, so Abdulrahman took a promise from us that we would listen and obey to whoever God put as our leader for our affairs, so he took the hand of Ibn Affan and hit his hand against his hand, so I looked at my affair, and my obedience had preceded my allegiance, and my covenant was given to someone other than me, so we gave the pledge of allegiance to Uthman, and I gave him his rights, and I obeyed him, and I fought in his armies, and I took if he gave me, and fight if he commanded me, and by his command reach the borders  And when he was injured I looked at my condition, and the two Khalifahs who had taken leadership by the promise of the Prophet (pbuh) to them in prayer had passed away, and the one who had been given the covenant was injured, so the people of Meccah and Medina gave me the pledge of allegiance, and the people of Egypt, So they said: So tell us about your fighting these two men, meaning Talha and Zubair. He said: They gave me the pledge of allegiance in Medina, but then left their allegiance in Basrah, and if any man who had pledged allegiance to Abu Bakr and Omar had left their allegiance they would have fought them.
And al Jariri narrated like it, from Abi Nadra

Alee ibn Abee Talib on the allegations against Abu Bakr and Umar :
Suwaid ibn Ghafalah(*)  reported that once he passed by a group of Shee’ah who were talking about Abu Bakr and ‘Umar in derogatory terms. Then he visited ‘Alee ibn Abee Talib and told him:
“O Ameer al-Mu’mineen, I passed by a group of your companions while they were referring to Abu Bakr and ‘Umar in derogatory terms. If it were not that they thought that you secretly felt as they openly said, they would not have dared to say it.”
‘Alee replied: “I seek refuge in Allaah! I seek refuge in Allaah from secretly feeling anything towards the two of them other than what the Prophet entrusted to me. May Allaah curse anyone who holds inside himself anything but goodness and gratitude towards both of them. (They were like) two brothers to Allaah’s Messenger , his two companions, his two assistants, may Allaah’s mercy be on both of them.”
Then ‘Alee got up with tears in his eyes, holding on to my hand until he entered the masjid. Next he ascended the mimber and sat at its top holding on to his beard and looking at it until the people gathered. After having made a brief but eloquent speech, he added:
“What is wrong with those who make allegations about the two masters of Quraysh, the two fathers of the Muslims, allegations which I would never say, or want to hear others say; and for which I may be punished. By He who split the seed and created the soul, only a pious believer loves them, and only a wretched sinner hates them. Those two who accompanied Allaah’s Messenger , commanding all that is good and prohibiting all that is evil; who became angry with wrongdoers and punished them based on truth and honesty alone. In their rulings, they did not overstep the opinion’s of Allaah’s Messenger . In fact, their opinions always coincided with those of Allaah’s Messenger and the believers were pleased with both of them throughout their respective caliphates.
The Messenger of Allaah appointed Abu Bakr to lead the believers in their prayers for the last nine days of the Prophet’s life and he died without recalling him. The believers, subsequently, made him responsible for their affairs, and gave him their Zakaah. They willingly pledged allegiance to him and I am the first person from Banu ‘Abd al-Muttalib to confirm his leadership. He disliked leadership and wished that one of us would take his place. By Allaah, he was the best of those who remained after the Prophet ; the eldest, the kindest, and truly the most compassionate and pious. He was like angel Mikaaeelalayhi salam in his benevolence and Prophet Ibraaheemalayhi salam in his willingness to forgive and his dignified bearing. He took the path of the Prophet and passed away on that path (may Allaah have mercy on him)….So who among you can be compared to the two of them(Abubakr and Umar) May Allaah’s mercy be on them, and may Allaah provide us with the ability to continue in their paths. Let whoever loves me, love them, for whoever does not love them has angered me, and I will have nothing to do with him. If I hear anymore derogatory talk about the two of them, I will punish the offenders severely. After today, whoever is brought before me will get the punishment of a slanderer. Verily, the best of this nation after its Prophet is Abu Bakr and ‘Umar . Then Allaah knows best who is the best. I am saying this asking Allaah’s forgiveness for both you and myself.”

Note(*) Suwaid ibn Ghafalah was among the major scholars of the Taabi’oon. He accepted Islaam during the lifetime of the Prophet but never met him. On the day that the Prophet was being buried in al-Madeenah, Suwaid came to the city for the first time. He later settled in Kufah and died at the age of 130 in the year 700 CE. All the major books of Ahaadeeth have ahaadeeth narrated by Him. Ibn Hajar, Taqreeb at-Tahtheeb, Vol. 1, p. 341.[ Taken From “The Devils Deception”, A translation of “Tablees Iblees” of Ibn al-Jawzee, Edited and translated by Dr. Abu Ameenah Bilal Philips]

Ali(ra) wrote in his letter stating:
Verily, the people who payed allegience to Abu Bakr, Umar and Uthman, have payed allegience to me based on the same principles as the allegience to them. So anyone who was present has no right to go against his pledge of allegience, and anyone who was absent has no right to oppose it. And verily shura (consultation) is only the right of the Muhajirs and the Ansar. So if they decide upon a man and declare him their imam, then it is with the pleasure of Allah. If anyone goes against this decision, then he must be persuaded to follow the rest of the people. If he persists, then fight with him for leaving that which has been accepted by the believers. And Allah shall let him wander misguided and not guide him. (Nahjul-Balaghah, Letter #6).  Similar report is present in Bihar al anwar (32/368)(33/76), noor al thaqalayn(1/551).

Comment: This proves that Ali(ra) believed that the Caliphate of Abubakr(ra) was with the pleasure of Allah.

We read in Al awaasim min Al Qawasim: Ali went to Kufa. He left Madina at the end of the month of Rabi’ al-Akhir in 36 A H. in order to be near to Syria. His son al-Hasan wanted his father to stay in Madina and take it as the abode of the khalifate as the three Khalifs had done before him (at-Tabari, 5:171). (Al-awaasim,page 88)
Comment: Hassan(ra) wanted Ali(ra) to follow the footsteps of the first three caliphs, which includes Abubakr(ra).

A man from the Khawarij came to Ameer ‘Ali (ra) and said to him: “What is wrong with you, that the people disagreed on you and ‘Uthman, while they agreed on Abu Bakr and ‘Umar?” so ‘Ali answered: “The people agreed on Abu Bakr and ‘Umar when the people were me and ‘Uthman, and they disagreed on me and ‘Uthman when they were like you and your likes.”

Meaning: The Khariji man wanted to criticize ‘Uthman (ra) and ‘Ali (ra) by telling him that the people were split concerning their right to be Caliphs, on the other hand the people never differed when it came to Abu Bakr (ra) and ‘Umar (ra). So ‘Ali (ra) replied that when people agreed on the first two Caliphs, these people were all pious companions the likes of himself and ‘Uthman (ra), and then later the people would differ on him and ‘Uthman (ra) because the people were starting to become less pious and less God fearing like the questioner himself. Thus even Ali(ra) affirmed that the noble companions of Prophet(Saw) didn’t have any diffences regarding the Caliphte of Abubakr(ra) and Umar(ra).

Did Ahlelbayt(ra) delay in giving Bayah to Abubakr(ra)?

Sahih hadith by Abu Sa’eed al Khudri (RA) that Ali (RA) gave Baya’ah immediatly to Abu bakr al Siddiq (RA):
Abu Sa’eed al Khudri may Allah be pleased with him said: When the Prophet’s PBUH soul passed away and when the people gathered at the place of Sa’ad bin Ubadah and amongst them were Abu bakr and Umar, a Khatib from the Ansar(Supporters) spoke: “You know that the Prophet of Allah PBUH was from the Mouhajirun(immigrants) and his Caliph must also be from the Mouhajirun, we were the Ansar of the Prophet PBUH and we will be the Ansar of his Caliph just as we were his Ansar”. then Umar bin al Khattab stood up and said “This Man from amongst the Ansar speaks truth and if it were anything other than this then we would not give you a baya’ah(Pledge of allegiance)” then he grabbed the hand of Abu bakr and said: “this is your Close companion so give him Baya’ah” then Umar and the Mouhajirun and the Ansar all gave him Baya’ah. Abu bakr stood on the Mimbar and he looked at the faces of all the people there but he never saw al Zubair so he called for him and and he came so he told him: “O son of the Prophet’s PBUH aunt and his disciple would you want to split the cause of the Muslims?” Zubair said: “Not at all O Caliph of the Prophet of Allah” then he stood and gave him Baya’ah, Then he looked at the faces of the people but did not spot Ali so he called for Ali bin abi Talib and he came to him so he said: “O cousin of the prophet of Allah and the husband of his daughter would you want to split the cause of the Muslims?” So Ali replied: “Not at all O Caliph of the Prophet of Allah” then he stood and gave him Baya’ah. [Al-Bayhaqi said: ‘ Abu Ali Al-Hafidh said: I heard Mohammad Ebn Ishaq Ebn KHUZAYMAH (Imam of the Imams) saying: ‘Muslim Ebn Al-Hajjaj (Imam Muslim!) entered upon me and asked me about that Hadith, so I wrote it down for him and read it. He said: ‘This Hadith is worth a Badnah (precious camel)’. I said: ‘A Badnah? Rather it is worth a Badrah (a Badrah is a bag with 10.000 Dinar!. And the Hadith was also narrated by Al-Hakim in his Al-Mustadrak ‘ala Al-Sahihayn (80/3) and he said: ‘This Hadith is Sahih according to the terms of the Shaykhayn who did not narrate it.’ Its like he said and it was also narrated by Ahmad (185/5) and in Mujama’a al Zawa’ed (5/183), rijal are people of saheeh. ; Al Bidayah wal Nihayah (5/281), chain thabit and saheeh and in al Sunan al Kubrah (8/143) with two SAHIH chains.]

Imam Abdullah bn Ahmad ibn Hanbal (rahimuhullah) narrated in his book Sunnan:
It was reported to me by Ubeydullah ibn Umar al-Qawarere, he said: reported to me AbdulAla ibn AbdulAla, he said: reported to me Dawud ibn Abi Hanad from Abu Nadra:
When people agreed upon Abu Bakr – may Allah be pleased with him, he said: “What happen to me? Why I don’t see Ali?” A man from ansar gone and came with him (Ali). (Abu Bakr) said to him: “O Ali, You would say that you are son of prophet’s uncle, and cousin of prophet?” (Ali answered): “Don’t rebuke, o caliph of messenger of Allah, stretch you hand”. He stretched his hand and he made an oath. Then Abu Bakr said: “What happen to me? Why I don’t see Zubayr?”. A man from ansar gone and came with him. (Abu Bakr) said to him: “O Zubayr! You would say that you are son of aunt of prophet, and his apostle?”. Zubayr said: “”Don’t rebuke, o caliph of messenger of Allah, stretch you hand”. He stretched his hand and he made an oath.
Quoted from “Kitabu Sunnan” #1292, p554.
Editor of this book Muhammad al-Qahtani said:  Chain is authentic.
Different versions of this hadith could find in other books also.
Imam Hakim (rahimuhullah) narrated it in his “Mustadrak” (#4457) with slight difference.  He said: Hadith is authentic in accordance to conditions of two shaykh.
Beyhaki (rahimuhullah) narrated it in his “Itikadat” 1/ 349-350As it stated in this two books, Abu Nadra narrated it from Abu Sayed al-Khudri.

In the Hadith of Habib bin abu Thabit: Ali bin Abu talib was in his house then a Man came to him and told him “Abu Bakr has gotten ready for the Baya’ah” So Ali went out to the mosque wearing only his Qamis without a Izar or a Ridaa and he was hasty because he hated to be late for the Baya’ah, then he gave the Baya’ah to Abu bakr and sat down and later asked for his Ridaa so it was brought for him and he wore it on top of his Qamis.(Tareekh al tabari 3/207 )[ This is narration is weak but it agrees with the Sahih narrations above, so it can be used as a Shawahid(witness) ].

Imam Beyhaki said in Itiqad wal Hadiy ila sabili Rashad (p 494):

The thing that was narrated regarding Ali didn’t pledge allegiance to Abu Bakr 6 months, is not from words of Aisha. That is words of az-Zuhri, which some narrators inserted to hadith of Fatima from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with them). Muamar ibn Rashid memorized it, and narrated it in clear form, and he marked words of az-Zuhri separate from hadith itself.

In Sawaik al-Muhrika by ibn Hajar al-Makki, We read:

(Page 51) speaking about pledge of allegiance to Abu Bakr, ibn Hajar said: “then he (Abu Bakr) turn his face to head of Ansar  – Sad, and said: O Sad, for sure you know that prophet said: Quraysh are head of this religion, good people obeys to their good people, and bad people obeys to their bad people”. Sad answered: You spoke truth, you are Imams of this nation and we are counselors”. So from this we know weakness of story reported by ibn Abdul Barr that Sad didn’t pledged allegiance to Abu Bakr till his death”.

On (page 53) “From what we have stated it becomes clear to you that companions agreed upon caliphate of Abu Bakr. Story that Sad ibn Abu Ubada stayed aside from this pledge is rejected”.

On (page 58) “Beyhaki said: Report from  Abu Said in Saheeh Muslim, that Ali and others from Banu Hashim didn’t pledge allegiance (to Abu Bakr) till death of Fatima, is weak. Narrator Zuhri didn’t proved its chain”.

Clarification of the misconception that Ali(ra) didn’t give Bayah to Abubakr(ra) for six months.

In regards to what we have in a hadeeth present in Bukhari and muslim, where we read that: When Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) became the khalifa, Hazrat ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) did not give bay’a (pledge of allegiance) to him nor did the tribe of Banu Hashim. However, six months later, after Hazrat Fatima (may Allah be pleased with her) passed away they all [including ‘Ali] gave bay’a to him”. [Bukhari, chapter on ‘Khaybar’; Muslim, Bab al-Fayy]

Clarification:  Hafiz al-’Asqalani answered this misconception, He wrote that: “Imam Ibn Hibban, Imam al-Bayhaqi, and other scholars of Hadith say that this narration contains some of Imam Zuhri’s own words. Somebody told Imam Zuhri that when Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) became the khalifa, Hazrat ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) did not give bay’a for six months. Imam Zuhri did not contain himself with only ‘Ali, but asserted that the whole tribe of Banu Hashim did not give bay’a to Abu Bakr until Hazrat Fatima (may Allah be pleased with her) passed away. The fact is that Imam Zuhri’s words are wrong, and infact Hazrat ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) gave bay’a to Hazrat Abu Bakr on the first day he was appointed khalifa. [Fath al-Bari, end of Chapter of Khaybar]

The best proof that it was the opinion of Zuhri is the hadeeth from Musannaf Abdul razzaq, where we clearly see that it was the opinion of Imam Zuhri not the original narrator Ayesha(ra).

Mu’ammar said: A man said to al-Zuhri: So ‘Ali did not give the pledge of allegiance for six months? He(Zuhri) said: No, nor did anyone from bani Hashim do so until ‘Ali did, When ‘Ali saw the people turning away from him he hurried to Abu Bakr in order to reconsile with him, he sent after him saying: Come to us and do not bring anyone else. ( Musannaf Abul Razzaq, hadeeth 9774) Online link.[Click here]

This explicit proof shows that it was the view of Imam Zuhri not Ayesha(ra). So this view of Zuhri is mursal and according to hadeeth scholars Maraseel of Zuhri are weakest type of Mursal reports.

Imam Ibn Hajar Said:

The Rafidah have sticked to the opinion that Ali delayed his Pledge of Allegiance (Bay’ah) to Abu Bakr until Fatimah died, and their (Rafidah) delirium in that matter is well known. They have no proof whatsoever in that Hadith, for it was authenticated by Ebn HIbban and others (Al-Bayhaqi, Ahmad etc.) that Ali gave his pledge to Abu Bakr at the very beginning of the matter, this was narrated by the Sahabi Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri. As for what has been narrated in SAHIH MUSLIM, on the authority of Al-Zuhri, that a man said to him: ‘Ali did not give his pledge to Abu Bakr until Fatimah died? Al Zuhri said: ‘No he didn’t, neither did anyone of the Bani Hashim’, then Al-Bayhaqi has weakened this narration, for the narration is not connected and the narration of the SAHABI Abu Sa’eed is more authentic, and  other narrations that altogether tell us that a second pledge took place, to remove (the distress occured between Fatimah and Abu Bakr) what happened due to the inheritance matter.[Fath Al-Bari 7/495]

Imam al-Bukhari writes: “It was reported by Imam Malik that the famous scholar of Hadith, Rabi’a Turayy, used to advise Imam Zuhri to show clearly in his narrations which were his own words and which were those of the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace)”. [al-Bukhari, Ta’rikh al-Kabir, Biography of Rabi’a Turayy, Vol. 2, p. 262]

Hafiz Qastalani also writes the same as above.

Hafiz Ibn Kathir writes that the narrations which say that ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) gave bay’a to Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) on the first day he was appointed khalifa are more authentic than those which do not support this. The reason for this is that ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) used to pray behind Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and stayed with him all the time [Ta’rikh Ibn Kathir,. Yawm as-Saqifa]

Ibn Kathir says:
“When the second Bay’ah (pledge of allegiance) occured, some of the narrators believed that Ali did not pledged allegiance before, hence they dismissed it, and confirmation has precedence over preclusion, as it is determined.”

And perhaps these are the words of Zuhri for he would do so plenty of times that he would mix his words in the hadith, so it is thought that it is a part of the hadith but it isn’t. Due to this, Musa ibn Aqaba said to him : Make your words distinct from the words of the Messenger of Allah (upon him be peace)(Mushkil al athar, by Imam Tahawi, Vol. 2, p. 353)

Conclusion:
Hadith science is not based on our whims, especially not on the whims of those who hate Abu Bakr and 99% of the Sahabah by default. Its true, the narration in Al-Sahih (like in Bukhari) by Ayesha(ra) is Sahih, but this goes only for the Sanad(chain), for the Matn(text) contradicts the Matn (text) of OTHER AUTHENTIC narrations. Now, a truthseeker, and this is what the Muhadditheen are, do not go by their whims, let alone hatred for any of the Sahabah. The simple truth is that one MUST put ALL the Sahih narrations together i.e. reconcile contradicting Mutun (texts), and by doing that one can easy come to the conclusion that Ali(ra) did INDEED pledge his allegiance to Abu Bakr, in the PUBLIC PLEDGE, straight after Saqifah where over 30.000 Sahabah pledged allegiance. He did a second Bay’ah, since people thought that there is something between Ali and Abu Bakr, to remove ANY DOUBTS, he gave a second Bay’ah so EVERYONE KNOWS until the day of Judgement that Ali is WITH Abu Bakr and views him noble and superior (as stated in other Sahih narrations too). Also, the fact that the Hadith of Ayesha(ra) in Al-Sahih has an Idraaj i.e. word of ONE of the narrators (Al-Shihab Al-Zuhri) were mistaken to be the words of the actual narrator Ayesha(ra).

This happens even in some Sahih Ahadith, and this is called “Al-Idraaj”, hence it is not even proven that it was definately Ayesha(ra) herself who stated that there was NO BAY’AH AT ALL except after six months. The proof for that is what Al Tabari in his Tarikh and Abu Awanah in his Musnad and Abdul-Razzaq Al San’aani in his Musannaf narrated, namely that the very same Al-Zuhri said that Ali and the Bani Hashim altogether did not pledged allegiance for six months! This additional part (no bay’ah for six months etc.) by Al-Zuhri is not authentic, and in the Ahmad version it’s not even there, and Al-Bayhaqi weakened this addition by Al-Zuhri which is MURSAL i.e. disconnected, and it is known that the Marasil (pl. of Mursal) of Al-Zuhri are worth nothing. Hence, when the MUDRAJ (Idraj of Zuhri) part of Al-Bukhari would have been corrected/overlooked then it makes perfectly sense, for all the narration says  is that Ali was upset that he was not consultated at Saqifah (not that his “divine” Imamat was stolen).

Ahlelbayt(ra) during the Khilafah of Abubakr(ra)

Ibn Abu ‘Umar in his book “al-Eman”: Ibrahim bin ‘Uyayanah told us: ‘Abdul-Wahid bin Ayman told us: al-Hassan ibn Muhammad ibn al-Hanafiyyah the son of ‘Ali used to tell me to read this book to the people: “We are loyal to Abu Bakr and ‘Umar may Allah be pleased with both of them and we make Jihad against their enemies because the nation never fought over them and we never doubted them, and we leave the affair of those who participated in the Fitnah to Allah.“[Tu’oun Rafidat al-Yaman fi Sahabat al-Rassul, p192 and he said: Hasan as the Hadith of Ibn ‘Uyayanah is acceptable and more than one stated that he is Hasan.]

Comment: From this report we come to know the loyalty of Ahlelbayt(ra) for Abubakr(ra) during his khilafah.

‘Ali ibn abi Talib (ra) narrates: al-‘Abbas, Fatima, Zaid and myself have all gathered in the prophet’s SAWS house, al-‘Abbas asked the Prophet SAWS: “O Prophet of Allah, I have become a man of old age and my bones and health have become weak, so if you can provide me with such and such and some food then do so.” He SAWS said: “I will.” then Fatima may Allah be pleased with her said: “O Prophet of Allah, you know of my relation to you, so if you see that you can provide me with the same things you provided your uncle then do so.” and he did what she said, then Zaid ibn Harithah asked: “O Prophet of Allah, in the past you had given me a piece of land where I could live and then you took it away from me, so if you see that you can return it then do so.” and he did, I (‘Ali) said: “Me O prophet of Allah, if you see fit to make me in charge of our right from the Khums which is in the book of Allah so that I may divide it in your life and no one would dispute it with me after you.” so he did, Then he SAWS turned towards al-‘Abbas and said: “O abu al-Fadl, will you not ask of me the same thing as your nephew?” and he replied: “No O prophet of Allah, my need is only what I have asked.” So the Prophet SAWS made me(Ali) in charge of it and I divided it during his life and then Abu Bakr may Allah be pleased with him made me in charge of it during his days and I divided it during his life and after him ‘Umar may Allah be pleased with him made me in charge of it and I divided it, then in the last year of his rule he obtained a great amount of wealth and he saved us our share and sent after me and told me: “This is your money so take it and divide it the way you used to.” so I (‘Ali) replied to him and said: “O chief of believers! we are not in need of it now (our condition is better now), and other Muslims are in need of it. Then he took it back (to the baitul maal) for them (i.e the needies).

Comment: Abubakr(ra) didn’t snatch the position of Ali(ra) which was granted to him by Prophet(Saw). During the Caliphate of Abubakr(ra) , Ali(ra) was given the same position.

It has been narrated from katheer un nawwal that he said : I said to Abu Jafar : May Allah give me the honor to be sacrificed for you, did Abu Bakr and Umar oppressed you regarding your rights? or said : Did they spoilt any of your rights? He said: No, by the One who revealed the Holy Quran on his servant, they didn’t oppressed us regarding our rights a bit. I said : May I be sacrificed on you, should I keep them close? He said, Yes, keep them close to yourself in this world and the hereafter, and if it creates any trouble for you, than it shall be on my throat. Than he said : May Allah give Mughaira and Banan the same reward what they deserve, they (attribute)lies to us Ahlel bayt.(Sharh Nahjul balagha, by Ibn Abil hadeed , Vol. 4, p. 113)

Hz Ali(ra) said: Allah sent prophet(saw) who saved people from deviation , saved them from destruction, then united them since they had scattered. Then he died. What responsibilities were on him he fulfilled all those, then people made abubakar(ra) the khaliph , after that abubakar(ra) referred Umar(ra) and both of them set an excellent example of best seerah, and both of these pious men established justice and fairness in the ummah.(nasikh al tawareekh, vol 3, page 231)

Ali always prayed behind Abu Bakr in his life. Hence we read in al bidaya of Hafiz ibn Kathir
Ali never separated from Abu Bakr Siddiq in the time of prayer, and never stopped praying behind him(Al bidaya Vol. 5, p. 249)

Similarly we read in the Shia books that Ali prayed behind Abu Bakr
And he (i.e Ali) entered the masjid , and prayed behind Abu Bakr.

We read in the famous Shia book , Qurbul Asnad
In the era of Abu Bakr, Umar and Uthman, the Hudood cases were dealt by Ali ibn Abi Talib. [Qurbul Asnad, p. 133]

We find in the books of Sunnis and Shiites that Umar, Ali , Muadh ibn Jabal, Ubai ibn Kaab, Zaid ibn Thabit and Abdullah ibn Masud were the persons from whom fatwas(religious verdicts) would be taken in the era of Abu Bakr.
[Tabaqat ibn Saad, baab ahlul ilm wal fatwa min ashab rasul (s), Vol. 2, p. 109 . Tarikh Yaqubi, Vol. 2, p. 138]

It is mentioned that when Abu Bakr wanted advice about important matters concerning the Muslim Ummah, he would gather with ‘Umar, ‘Uthman and ‘Ali bin Abi Taalib. (Tabaqaat Ibn Sa’d vol.1 pg.1091)

Ali bin Abi Taalib was an advisor for Abu Bakr during the wars against the apostates, after the death of the Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). This fact was mentioned by Al Hafith Muhib al Deen Ahmad bin ‘Abdullah al Tabari in his book titled: Dakhair al ‘Ukhbaa(pg. 97), and it was also mentioned in Shia book titled: Nahj al Balagha (vol.2 pg. 119).

Regarding War with Apostates:

Bahz bin Hakim said: “My father told, me that my grandfather said: ‘I heard the Prophet(saw) say: With regard to grazing camels, for every forty a Bint Labbun (a two-year old female camel). No differentiation is to be made between camels when calculating them. Whoever gives it seeking reward, he will be rewarded for it. Whoever refuses, we will take it, and half of his camels, as one of the rights of our Lord. And it is not permissible for the family of Muhammad to have any of them.”‘

Meaning they had no option of refusing an obligatory duty as Muslims, the Prophet (saw) said he would take it by force should they refuse to give it. After the Prophet (saw) passed away his successor assumes the exact position he had, the Khalifah is supposed to take the place of the Prophet (saw) in everything he did as far as political management.

Translation/explanation of Narration: Caliph Abu bakr consulted Ali about his Opinion regarding the Murtadds, He said: “O Abu al Hassan, what say you (About this)? Ali replied that “if you were to leave with them something which Rassul Allah(saw) took then you’d be going against the Sunnah of The Prophet”, Abu bakr then said: Now that you say this I’ll have to fight them no matter what.

Also in Kitab-ul-Muwafaqah by ibn al-Samman page 48 it is narrated that Abu Bakr asked `Ali about them: “What do you say O Aba al-Hasan?” `Ali replied: “I say: If you leave with them anything that Rasul-Allah (saw) used to take from them then you have strayed from the Sunnah.” So Abu Bakr said: “Now that you have said this, I shall fight them should they not offer even a rope for the camels (that they used to offer previously).”

Comment: It was the advice of Ali(ra) that Abubakr(ra) should fight those who refused to pay Zakat, and Abubakr(ra) implemented on this advice of Ali(ra).

Ali also participated with the Muslims when the battles started in the era of Abu Bakr. Referring to it, Ali said:

فنهضت في تلك الأحداث حتى زاح الباطل و زهق و اطمأن الدين و تنهنه
than I stood up during those difficult times till the falsehood was finished and the “deen” became safe.
(Bihar al anwar. and Nahjul Balagha)
Similarly we read in Tarikh Tabari and Sharah Nahjul balagha:
وجعل أبو بكر بعد ما أخرج الوفد على أنقاب المدنية نفرا عليا والزبير وطلحة وعبدالله بن مسعود
Tarikh Tabari, Vol. 3, p. 223
(
Sharah nahjul balagha, ibn abil hadeed, Vol. 4, p. 228)

In Al bidaya wa al nihaya and Tarikh ibn Khaldun,
Al bidaya wa alnihaya, Vol. 6, p. 311
Tarikh ibn Khaldun, Vol. 2, p. 858

Ali(ra) said: When God took His Prophet (pbuh), we looked at our affairs, and we chose for our world who the Prophet (pbuh) chose for our religion, and the prayer was the root of Islam, and the most important matter, and the pillar of the religion. So we gave the pledge of allegiance to Abu Bakr, and he deserved that, and not even two among us disagreed about that, nor did we bear witness against each other, nor did we accuse him of anything, so I gave Abu Bakr his rights, and I obeyed him, and I fought alongside his soldiers, and I used to take if he gave me, and fight if he commanded me, and by his command reach the borders [The history of Islam by Al Dhahabi, pages 486-487]

Ali RAA led some battle himself as mentioned in “Al Murtada” for Al Nadwi, Page 97.

Ibn Umar RAA talks to Ali RAA as Ali was on his way to a battle and tells him to Come Back to madinah (After the battle) as the Prophet PBUH had told Ali RAA on the day of Uhud, Abdullah Ibn Umar RAA continues and tells Ali RAA that they don’t want to hear news of his death because that will be a disaster for Islam. Then Ali RAA came back.

Here’s the arabic Narration:
فعن ابن عمر، رضي الله عنه يقول: «أقول لك ما قال رسول الله يوم أحد: لم سيفك ولا تفجعنا بنفسك، وارجع إلى المدينة، فوالله لئن فجعنا بك لا يكون للإسلام نظام أبدًا»، فرجع
Source: البداية والنهاية (6/314، 315).
Al Bidayah wal nihayah 6/314,315.

Hence, it is confirmed that Abu Bakr sent armed groups to guard the roads of Madinah, under the commad of Ali ibn Abi Talib , Zubair bin al awwam, Talha bin abdullah , Saad bin Abi Waqas , Abdur Rahman bin Auf and Abdullah ibn Masud.

The gifts which Ahlelbayt received from Abubakr(ra) during his Caliphate.

Abu Bakr gave a maid slave to Ali.
It has been narrated from Abu Jafar that he said : Abu Bakr gave a maid slave to Ali.
(Musannif, Vol. 3, p. 138)

Another son of Sayyiduna ‘Ali, namely Muhammad, was born to him from a woman from Banu Hanifah who was brought to Madinah as a war captive by Khalid ibn al-Walid after his expedition against her tribe that had turned apostate with Musaylamah. This woman was given to Sayyiduna ‘Ali by Sayyiduna Abu Bakr. (“Tabaqat Ibn Sa’d” vol. 5 p. 67) and this Muhammad is known in history as Muhammad ibn al-Hanafiyyah.

Ali would take share from the war booty that the Muslims would receive, hence the most clear proof of it are his descendants, Umar, Ruqayya, and the more famous one amongst the Shias, Muhammad ibn Hanafiyah. Apart from the slave maid that Ali received as we mentioned above, the mother of Umar ibn Ali and Ruqayya bint Ali is Umm Habib bint Rabiya, and her name is Suhba, she was received as a war captive in the battle against Bani Taghlab.

Tabaqat ibn Sad, Vol. 5, p. 86

It has been mentioned in Shia books:

Similarly when some spoils were received in the battle at Haira, Abu Bakr gifted them to Hussain son of Ali.
Futuhul Buldan, p. 254

Comment: So we realize from these facts that close relationships always remained between the ahlelbayt and Abu Bakr.

According to ahlebayt, Abubakr(ra) followed the sunnah of Prophet(saw) during his Caliphate.

1.

Imam Ahmad narrates in Musnad (1055), Abdullah in Zawaid (1059), Ibn Abi Shaibah in Musannaf (37053) through Abdul Malik bin Sila’ from ‘Abd Khair that he heard ‘Ali (ra) say:
“The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) died and Abu Bakr was appointed as his successor, and he did what he had done and followed on his footsteps, and persisted in doing so until Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, took his soul in that state. Then ‘Umar was appointed as his successor so he did what they had done and followed their footsteps until Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, took his soul in that state.”
Shaykh Shu’aib Arna’ut declared this Isnad to be Hasan while Al-Albani declared its Isnad to be Jayyid (good). [Musnad Ahmad (1055) (1059) with footnotes of Arna’ut, Zilal al-Jannah (2/552) by Al-Abani]

Comment: One may object to it by saying that Abdul Malik bin Sala’ is the main narrator and no one declared him Thiqah except Ibn Hibban. However, more than one scholar have narrated from him which include the like of Abdullah bin Numair. In such cases narrators are generally accepted. That is why Hafiz Ibn Hajar declared Abdul Malik to be Saduq. Besides Ad-Daarqutni said in “Al-‘Ilal” that Abdul Malik was more dependable than Isma’eel As-Suddi, Musayyib bin ‘Abd Khair, Abu Sawda al-Nahdi. [See, Mawsu’ah Aqwal Ad-Daarqutni fi Rijal al-Hadith (3/422-423)]

Similarly we read:

Abd khair said (once)Ali(ra) while he was sitting on the minbar, said: Prophet(Saw) passed away and abubakar(ra) was appointed as khalipha . He(ra) implemented his duty according to the way of prophet(Saw) and continued working according to the seerah of prophet(Saw) until he died, then umar(ra) became the khalipha, he too implemented his duty like the way prophet(saw) and abubakar(ra) did, and worked according to their seerah and died on the same way(Fadhail Sahaba by Imam Ahmed, Rijaal Thiqaat ; Majmua al zawaid, vol 5, page 179).

2. Ali(ra) said regarding Abubakr(ra) : Of all people, you were the best companion of the Messenger of Allah(saw); you possessed the best qualities; you had the best past; you ranked highest; you were closest to him. And of all people you resembled the Messenger of Allah(saw) the most in terms of his guidance and demeanor…And a truly good successor you proved to be when the people apostatized. You did what no other Khaleefah of a Prophet did before you. You stood up firmly and bravel when his other companions lost their resolve and became soft. And when they became weak, you adhered to the methodology of the Messenger of Allah(saw). You truly were as the Messenger of Allah(saw) said: Weak in your body, but strong regarding commands of Allah…You have always been a protector, a sanctuary, and source of honor for this religion…May Allah not lead us astray after you.(At-Tabsirah, by Ibn Jawzee, vol 1, pages 477-479 and Ashaab Ar-Rasool, vol 1, page 108). [Also refer:The Biography of Abu Bakr As-Siddeeq, Ali Sallabi. Pg 736-738]

3. Ali(ra) said: The Messenger of Allaah appointed Abu Bakr to lead the believers in their prayers for the last nine days of the Prophet’s life and he died without recalling him. The believers, subsequently, made him responsible for their affairs, and gave him their Zakaah. They willingly pledged allegiance to him and I am the first person from Banu ‘Abd al-Muttalib to confirm his leadership. He(abubakr) disliked leadership and wished that one of us would take his place. By Allaah, he was the best of those who remained after the Prophet ; the eldest, the kindest, and truly the most compassionate and pious. He was like angel Mikaaeelalayhi salam in his benevolence and Prophet Ibraaheem alayhi salam in his willingness to forgive and his dignified bearing.

[ Taken From “The Devils Deception”, A translation of “Tablees Iblees” of Ibn al-Jawzee, Edited and translated by Dr. Abu Ameenah Bilal Philips]

A similar text in other book says:

[…I heard `Ali say: “Allah took the soul of his Prophet (saws) while being the best that a prophet can be.” He praised him and said: “After that, Abu Bakr received successor-ship, so he followed the way and example of the Prophet (saws), then Allah took his soul while being the best anyone can be, so he was the best of this nation after its Prophet (saws). After that, `Umar received successor-ship, so he followed their way and example, then Allah took his soul while being the best that anyone can be, so he was the best of this nation after its Prophet (saws) and Abu Bakr.”]

4. We read in the book “Ali ibn Abi Talib by Ali M Sallabi”:

Ali said: Who do you know who is like them(Abubakr and Umar)? May Allah have mercy on them, and may Allah help us to follow their path. No one can attain what they attained except by following in their footsteps and loving them. So whoever loves me, let him love them;whoever does not love them hates me, and I have nothing to do wih him. (Ali ibn Abi Talib, by Dr. Ali M Sallabi, vol 1, page 390)

5. In At-tuyuriyyaat, jafar ibn muhamad reports on the authority of his father that a man said to Ali: We hear you say in your khutbah: O Allah! A person who clings to them becomes a members of Allah’s party. (Biographies of the rightly guided caliphs page 344)

6. The conditions of peace between Hasan and Muawiya are described.

In the name of Allah , the beneficent, the most Merciful. These are the conditions of peace between Hasan bin Ali bin Abi Talib and Muawiya bin Abi Sufyan. The first condition is that you should follow Quran , Sunnah and the seerah of the righteous Caliphs. [Full stop]
Jila ul Ayun, Page 232
Same thing is also present in Ibn `Aqil, al-Nasa’ih al-Kafiya, p. 156.
Al-Majlisi, Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 10, p. 115.

Similar thing is also present in Kashful ghummah:
سم الله الرحمان الرحيم هذا ما صالح عليه الحسن بن على بن أبي طالب معاوية بن أبي سفيان صالحه على أن يسلم إليه ولاية أمر المسلمين على ان يعمل فيهم بكتاب الله تعالى وسنة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم وسيرة الخلفاء الراشدين
Ali bin Esa Al-Arbili , Kashaful Ghumma vol. 2, p. 45

Comment: This is a very crucial condition made by hassan(ra) which needs to be pondered over. Hassan(ra) set one of the condition before Muawiya(ra) which stated that he(Muawiya) should follow, Quran , sunnah and seerah of righteous caliphs. But the shiatu dajjal accuse the 3 righteous caliphs as being innovators and they accuse them of not ruling by Quran and sunnah. So now if what shias say was correct, then why would Hassan(ra) mention that the seerah(biography) of righteous caliph is to be followed ALONG WITH QURAN AND SUNNAH ? Doesn’t this sounds like an oxymoron? If the 3 righteous caliphs rule against what Quran and sunnah teaches then why did Hassan(ra) include them in his condition along with Quran and sunnah? Doesn’t this seems to be two contradictory conditions at one place? But the fact is that this condition itself establishes the reality before unbiased and honest people that neither the 3 righteous caliphs ruled against Quran and sunnah nor were they innovators. That is why hassan(ra) included them to be followed along with Quran and sunnah.

7. Imam Muslim narrated in “Sahih” (Book 017, Number 4231): Hudain b. al-Mundhir Abu Sasan reported: I saw that Walid was brought to Uthmin b. ‘Affan as he had prayed two rak’ahs of the dawn prayer, and then he said: I make an increase for you. And two men bore witness against him. One of them was Humran who said that he had drunk wine. The second one gave witness that he had seen him vomiting. Uthman said: He would not have vomited (wine) unless he had drunk it. He said: ‘Ali, stand up and lash him. ‘Ali said: Hasan, stand up and lash him. Thereupon Hasan said: Let him suffer the heat (of Caliphate) who has enjoyed its coolness. (‘Ali felt annoyed at this remark) and he said: ‘Abdullah b. Ja’far, stand up and flog him, and he began to flog him and ‘Ali counted the stripes until these were forty. He (Hadrat ‘Ali) said: Stop now, and then said: Allah’s Apostle (may peace be upon him) gave forty stripes, and Abu Bakr also gave forty stripes, and Umar gave eighty stripes, and all these fall under the category of the Sunnab, but this one (forty stripes) is dearer to me.

Comment: Imam Nawawi said, This narration is manifest proof that Ali (r.a) honoured the actions and commandments of Umar and Abu Bakr by acknowledging their actions as a Sunnah, contrary to the lies which the shias ascribe to him.

9. Sahi bukhari 2.79: Narrated Ibn `Abbas: I offered the `Id prayer with Allah’s Apostle, Abu Bakr, `Umar and `Uthman and all of them offered the prayer before delivering the Khutba.
Comment: This report from the member of Ahlelbayt(ibn Abbas) shows us that Abubakr(ra) followed the Prophet(Saw).

10. Hz ali(ra) said:After prophet(Saw) the muslims from their community elected two Ameers(leaders) who were righteous and pious men. Thus these two people used to practice according to Quran and Sunnah. And their seerah and character was excellent. They didn’t exceed from sunnat- e- nabwi(saw). And they died in the same condition. May Allah shower his mercy on both of them( sharh nahjul balagha by mutazili shia ibn hadeed, vol 2, page 35) (nasikh al tawareekh, vol 3,page 289)

Esteemed Shia Scholar, Kashif Alghita Stated:
“And When Ali PBUH saw that the Two Caliphs – I mean the first and the second, Abu bakr and Umar, That they put so much effort in spreading the word of tawheed and organizing the armies and opening the lands and they didn’t abuse their positions, So He Made peace and Gave them Baya’ah.”(Asl al Shia wa Usooliha 124).

Comment: Though the above statement is from a Shia scholar, yet what is worth pointing is that Abubakr(ra) spread TAWHEED(monotheism) during his Caliphate, which was from the essential parts of religion and Sunnah of Prophet(Saw).

Infact we read in Shia book that, when their 12th Imam will return, He will follow a Sunnah of Abubakr(ra), that is killing of those people who refuse to pay Zakat.

We read:

Qayim Aal e Mohemmed(Imam e Asr) will command three things on his emergence : Abu Abdullah (Imam Jafar Sadiq a.s) & Abul Hasan( Imam Raza a.s) said : When Imam e Asr(a.s) emerges, he will give three such commands which no one else would have given ever before ; (1) Death sentence for an aged fornicator. (2) Death sentence for those who don’t pay Zakaat. (3) A brother will get a portion of his brother’s house. [ Book: Khisaal , Al Kisa Publishers. Page : 97 ,Author: Sheikh al Sudooq]

Abubakr(ra) sent his wife to take care of Fatima(ra)

We read in Shia books that Asma bint Umais, the wife of Abu Bakr, took care of Fatima, when she was ill.
Baitul Ahzan, Shaikh Qummi,p. 171
Amali, Shaikh Tusi, VOl. 1, p. 107
Jila ul Ayun, Baqir Majlisi, p. 172
Kitabul Jafriyat bama Qurbul Asnad, p. 205

It is reported in Shia books that : ” Hz. Ali [ra] said to Asma Bint Umais[ra](who was wife of Abubakr) To give bath to the body of hz. Fatima[ra] and to put scent on her body and covered her body in the shroud, then prayed her Salah-e-Janaza and buried her in Janat ul Baqi.” Kashf ul Ghumma Page #149
Almost the same is recorded in Alaam alwari page#159 through Kashf Al Asrar page # 26.
Similarly, its reported in books of Ahlesunnah that Asma(ra) participated in the funeral bath of Fatima
Istiab, Vol. 4,p. 322
Asadul Ghaba, Vol. 5, p. 478
Musannif Abur Razaq, Vol. 3, p. 410

One of the things that indicate that the relationship between Abu Bakr(ra) and Fatimah (ra) was very strong is that the wife of Abu Bakr(ra) Asma’ bint ‘Umays, is the one who tended to Fatimah(ra) the daughter of the Prophet(Saw), during her final illness, and she was with her until she took her last breath. She was one of those who washed her and prepared her for burial. ‘Ali(ra) tended her himself and was helped in that by Asma’. Fatimah(ra) gave Asma’ some instructions with regard to how she was to be shrouded and buried, and how her funeral was to be, and Asma’ carried out those instruction. Fatimah (ra) said to Asma’: “I do not like what is done to women: they cover the woman with a cloth that shows her shape.” Asma’ said: “O daughter of the Messenger of Allah(saw) shall I tell you of something that I saw in Abyssinia?” She called for some fresh palm leaves, then she bent them and covered them with a cloth. Fatimah(ra) said: “How good and beautiful this is! With this a woman can be told apart from a man.” It was narrated from Ibn ‘Abdul-Barr that Fatimah(ra) as the first one in Islam whose bier way covered in this manner, and Zaynab bint Jash was the next one.

The views of Ahlelbayt(ra) regarding the haters and enemies of Abubakr(ra)

Suwaid ibn Ghaflah: I entered on ‘Ali ibn abi Talib during his emirate and said: “I passed by some folks who were talking about Abu Bakr and ‘Umar and saying that you have a deep hatred for both of them, one of those folks is ‘Abdullah ibn Saba, ‘Ali said: “I do not understand this wicked black man(Ibn Saba), I seek refuge in Allah from this matter and I only have deep beautiful respect for them.” Then he sent after Ibn Saba and exiled him to al-Madaen(In Yemen) and said: “He will not live in the same land with me.” He then went to his Mimbar and when the people gathered he complimented both of them and said nothing but good things about them. then he said: If it reaches me that anyone prefers me over them then I shall lash them as they do with the slandering liar.”[al-Khateeb made Takhreej for it in “al-Kifayah” p376 and said that Abu ‘Abdullah al-Boushanji graded it as Sahih, Abu Nasr Muhammad ibn ‘Abdullah al-Imam said in the commentary: It is narrated through other chains, it is Thabit.]

When they were done, Ali bin Al-Hussain told them, ‘Tell me, Are you the (Muhajirs, those who were expelled from their homes and their property, while seeking Grace from Allah and (His) Good Pleasure, and aiding Allah and His Messenger: such are indeed the sincere ones)? They answered, ‘No!’ Then Ali bin Al-Hussain said, ‘So, are you (those who, before them, had homes (in Medina) and had adopted the Faith, show their affection to such as came to them for refuge, and entertain no desire in their hearts for things given to the (latter), but give them preference over themselves, even though poverty was their (own lot))?’ They answered, ‘No!’ Ali bin Al-Hussain said, ‘Therefore, you disassociated yourselves from being one of these two groups and I bear witness that you are not the ones (who came after them say: “Our Lord! Forgive us, and our brethren who came before us into the Faith, and leave not, in our hearts, rancor (or sense of injury) against those who have believed. Our Lord! Ahlelbayt(ra) on the death of Abubakr(ra)

Ali bin Abi Taalib mentioned the following statement upon being informed about the death of Abu Bakr: May Allah have mercy on you oh Abu Bakr! Indeed you were the first to embrace Islam, you were the most sincere, and you were the most certain…. (Al Isti’aab vol.1 pg. 42, Al Riyad al Nadrah pg. 239)

Ali Ibn Abi Talib may Allah raise his rank heard the news of Abu-Bakr’s death, he rushed to the scene. Weeping and remembering this great Companion, he stood at the door of  A’ishah’s house and said: “May Allah have mercy upon you Abu Bakr. I swear by Allah that you were the first among the people to embrace Islam. You believed the Messenger of Allah when the people belied him and you supported him when they left him, and Allah the Exalted named you in the Qur’an Siddiq.”And said (And he who brings the truth and (he who) accepts it as the truth surah zumar :33)

Why was abubakar(ra) buried beside prophet(Saw), Ahlelbayt(ra) explains.

Bahrani mentioned in the durra Najafia that what one gets from the collective of the news that the person is burried only in the earth from which he was created. So study the sahiha of Muhammad bin muslim from one of the two (Alayhima Assalam) said: whoever is created from a soil is burried in it.

From Assadiq (alayhi Assalam) that the Nutfa (clot) when it falls in the womb, Allah sends an angel to take from the soil in which he is going to be burried abd puts it in the Nutfa. so his heart will continue to miss it until he is burried in it.

From Saleh bin sahel he said: I said to Abu Abdullah (alayhi Assalam): May I die for you from what thing did Allah created the soil of the mumin. He responded: from the soil of the prophets so it will never be Najas.

Comment: We know that hz abubakar(ra) and hz umar(ra) are buried beside prophet(Saw) , thus they were created from that soil… which proves that they were believers. The shia might say that only the part till where prophet(saw) is buried is pure not even to an extra inch, where the two leaders of muslims are buried. BUt what we need to ask them is that, then how come you people consider the soil surrounding the grave of hz hussain(ra) upto some meters is pure, and its permissible to eat(where as normal soil is haram in ur madhab)then why doesn’t the same rules apply to the place where prophet(Saw) is buried? just because shiekein are buried there? If so then it will be another example of double standards of shia.

May Allah’s (swt) blessings be upon His Messenger, his household, and companions.

3 thoughts on “Part 5. Nature of Relationship between Ahlebayt(ra) and Abubakar(ra)

  1. I have no doubt that Hazrat Abu Bakr (Ra) stood first in following Islam in the Ummah and hazrat Umar (Ra) just second to him. They are the closest friends of the holy Prophet (saw) on earth and hereafter. They both excelled in promoting Islam. They are the jewels of the Holy prophet.

The Shias are misguided people. They are wrong to shamelessly accuse two greatest friends of the Holy prophet. They are so foolish that they did not feel sorry that their allegations go against the Holy Prophet the the Prophet failed to make good followers ( Nauzu Billah). May Allah guide them to the light and to the love for the ahle bayt and respects to the great sahabas Amin.

  2. Can you comment on the following. The Prophet (s) said to Imam Ali: “The Ummah will certainly betray and abandon you after me”
